KLR650 Muffler Clearance ?
I have a 2017 KLR650 and I just changed the rear tire for the first time. I noticed that part of the muffler seems close to the tire when I look from the rear of the bike. The muffler is in 2 sections at the back. The one that has the exhaust port and below that is a large fat section that I am not sure what its role is. It's this large fat section that appears to only be 2 inches away from the side of my tire. Am I just noticing this little clearance or is something else possibly going on?

They are all that close. It's one of the things that limit you fitting a wider rear tire to the bike. When I fitted a 140 section (instead of the standard 130) I found it rubbed here and had to put some washers under the silencer mountings to move it out a few millimetres. Fyi, on the other side of the tyre you will also find the front of the chain guard is nearly as close.
