KLE has weird tinny rattle

Hi all http://www.wilddog.za.net/forum/Smil...ult/smiley.gif

I have to say I am loving my new 2005 KLE, a great bike and underrated.

I have noticed one weird and annoying problem. At a certain rev range (about 3000rpm) I can hear a tinny rattle. It is not and engine-type rattle more a light metal sound.

I have checked the exhaust mounts and gone over everything and nothing was obviously loose.

Has anyone had the same thing or can anyone suggest what it might be... it is driving me nuts!

I have removed the bash plate and radiator guard temporarily but it is still there

Thanks
Tracy

Hi There, I wrote this after having a strange noise, back in 2008, this was the result, the teeth on the pinion were actually worn and it was making like a 4x4 with desert deuller tyres on asphalt noise. Hope it helps, worth a check anyway.

Right, well I decided to take my bike to honda, figured it was the best bet, being a newbie on bike bikes and all and all. So they checked the front end. They thought it was the counter housing, they checked it out and had a test ride, the scraping noise has gone, but there is a scratching, jingling noise. They checked the front brakes, very dirty, cleaned and bleeded and put back. Test ride - still making a jingling scratching sound. It's coming from the gear box area. It is actually the pinion thats scratching, result I can ride, but I must get the chain and sprockets changed. Oh well, At least there is a result at the end of all of this. Let's just hope my wallet doesn't mind. Do you mind wallet? Eerrrm, slow down kid. Ok, I'll put it on the for April list shall I. lol. There you are, thanks for the input guys happy riding.

are you sure its not a vibration up behind the dash near the headlights? The KLE comes with this annoying little 'rattle' - mine vibrates on idle at about 1200 rpm. Its not that?

Hey Lone Star :)

It could be that though my rattle is a real metalic ring-ting-ting sort of rattle and is fairly loud not a plasticy rattle.

what does your rattle sound like??

...boy, sometimes I wonder about the weird things I post on the internet ;)

This weekend I am going to pop the side fairings and ride up and down our (quiet) road and see if I can't isolate it... and failing that pull the headlight front fairing and check in behind there.

cheers

I think you would know if it was behind the dash. I can press on the front fairing and the noise stops so I know its there somewhere. I have had a look in there and moved the foam stopper so hopefully that has fixed my problem. Just need to ride and see.
Might be easier to have it parked and rev it to try and duplicate the noise? I have the mechanical knowledge of a gold fish so I wont be too much help for you unfortunately. Maybe there is a loose nut rattling around somewhere? Under your seat is a tool bag - something come out and loose? Keep us posted...

Rattle sorted !! :)

I found it! Spent some time going up and down the big carpark at the back of work.

Turns out the very noticable noise was simply the unfixed end of this bracket (sorry about the rubbish pic) vibrating at certain revs

bent it open a bit a sorted :)

Thanks for all the suggestions

i had a tinny rattle on 2 of my 4 kle's it was at a rev range and on hard decceleration . . . . never found, but was convinced it was coming from inside the tank . . . having looked everwhere else.

Mine was just above the dash, stuck some rubber strips in to sort it.

I now have one on the carrier plate for my topbox.
