kle 500 screen

suppose this has been asked before , but - i'm looking for a taller screen for my 2005 kle500. followed the threads on here and mostly seem to be coming to a dead end. any current suppliers in the uk for these . also read that the z1000 03-06 screen will fit . is this correct ? any other bikes have the same fittings ?
cheers, trying to sort the kle for winter.

Busters, M&P, Powerbronze, MRA all do screens for the KLE.

"Kappa" make a nice screen for the KLE. I've got one on mine and it works well. :thumbup1:

It works as well, motorway trips are more comfortable and a bit quieter. (See new post below)

Just fitted mine, i like it. :D

Bought a Powerbronze, too. There is some difference, but not massive. If anything, it's less turbulent, but noisier.

Puig also makes a good screen fr KLE. Its quite high and deflects the wind good. I am 180cm tall and the wind is deflected over me or at the top of the helmet.

I dropped my bike and broke the screen during a tour. I had to ride for two days with no screen at all and......

neck pain disappered

I could hear the engine for the first time and not just the rush of wind noise.

The screen was blasting the air onto my helmet causing it to take the full force. Once the screen was gone I could feel the wind on my chest, which was easier to manage and it was now below my helmet.

So I will not be replacing the raised screen.

I will experiment with the standard screen, but suspect I may ditch it as well and have no screen at all as it is the most comfortable for me. I will also look at cutting the top off the standard screen so it is lower again and see how that is.

kle 500 home made screen

Hi All

Just thought I'd add my 2 cents worth, even though I've got the older model '98 KLE 500:

After buying a taller Ermax screen (maybe 15cm taller) that actually made the buffeting and wind noise worse, I decided to make my own screen. I've tried the bike with the screen removed, which helps but the wind noise is still pretty bad (possibly arai helmet?), and my body gets tired on my hour commute to work at 80+ mph. I'm 6'3" and have redone my seat so that I'm sitting maybe 10-15cm higher on the bike.

I bought a piece of 3mm thick Lexan (Polycarbonate), size 60 x 40cm. I then used the standard screen to mark off bend lines etc, then used a heat gun to heat the sheet and bend it (man, it's really tough stuff - no need to worry about breaking it). I used an electric jigsaw with steel cutting blade to trim the edges to fit the bike. I then drilled mounting holes, and had to recess the screen sides to clear the mirrors/handguards with the steering at full lock.

So, the new screen is great. It is probably level with my nose, and sends the air only over the top of my helmet, reducing noise greatly.

This type of screen would be much easier to make for the newer model KLE with its simplified screen mountings.

I'll take some pictures if anyone is interested.

larger screen

Hi all,

I have an 07 model and added a touring windlip from Eaglescreen's. This caused too much buffeting above 80 Km/hr, giving almost instant headache. Then added an Aerotrim, which now makes it very bearable, whilst wearing a helmet with a peak.

One drawback is the bracket is not strong enough to handle the extra wind loading, particularly with high head winds at highway speeds. The bracket breaks at the weld where the tabs for bolting down attach. Takes awhile for the thing to crack, but does break free.

Have so far replaced one bracket and had this replacement bracketed re-welded whilst away on a trip.

To fit a larger screen again would require more than the current two bolt down points. Was thinking about looking at the Suzuki Vstrom screen and mounts. Yet to size it up and look at reinforcing mount points though.

Fun riding to all.

Shaun
