KLE 500: Idles Rough With Choke On Startup When Cold

Hi

I was wondering if someone can give a bit of advice. I have only recently started encountering this problem with the bike. It is a '07 KLE 500.

Problem as follows:

When I first start the bike when it is cold I normally apply about 1/2 ~ 3/4 choke, start it and let it idle for about a minute. Lately it starts fine but does not run well with the choke on. It doesent want to idle smoothly and sound almost like it is flooding. When I close the choke it is fine.

Any thoughts?

Maybe the weather is warmer? Less choke required....

Are you getting a pool of fuel beneath the bike when stopped, and surging when running at partial throttle? Could be needle and seat fouled by a bit of gunk causing rich mix?

Start the furker with no choke and hold 10% throttle until revs pick up by themselves - then release throttle and let warm up at idle...

Could be any number of things really....

Cheers
Ian

I would agree with Ian, You would not need as much choke in the warmer weather. I start mine with choke but bring it down to just above idle about 30seconds before choke off and just a couple of blips on the throttle.

I then let it tickover for another min before setting off.

Hope you sort it.

Thanks for the reply.

I have just re-jetted the carbs and the problem has completely gone away.
Check the re-jetting thread: http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...g-carb-41935-3
