Front brake trouble
Hello fellow Kle500 riders

Ive had my '07 for almost a year now and love it to bits. Ive done almost 20,000 kms in that year and replaced the usual stuff; Brake pads, chain, sprockets, etc. However just recently i put a new front disk on and since then there has been a scraping noise coming from the front brake. i have checked that all the parts are there, the disk is straight and upon spinning the wheel and watching the brake, i have come to the conclusion that the culprit is the two clips that sit on either side of the outer pad. These are shown in the manual diagrams but not labelled or any information given. My first thoughts are that the clips have stretched out and are not holding themselves in place but before i go bending them and possibly killing them, i thought i would ask if anyone has had a similar problem.

They are anti rattle plates... They hold the pads in place with spring tension and stop them rattling about..

Free play and movement is normal in callipers, as is a little rubbing.

HOW much rubbing are you having though ?? Is it scraping ?

Hey ted thanks for the reply!

there is enough noise for me to be concerned...It also seems that the anti rattle springs are starting to wear the disc. If you move the bike with the engine off you can clearly hear the scrapping and it gets worse when you turn the bars.

When i replaced the disc and pads i remember that i almost lost the rattle clips because they just fell out with the pad.

should the clips stay in on their own accord? Logic suggests that if they are just falling out then they need to be re-tensioned or replaced?

Hi there

The brake pads should hold the clips in place. You can easily bend the clips if you feel that they've lost their spring - which i doubt. Are you sure that you have them in correctly? Maybe post a photo if you're still unsure, and will try to help

I agree, you can't beat a kle 500!

Bent them in a bit today and seems to have done the trick. Rode all day and no squeaking or scrapping at all.

I guess they just needed some tension. Thanks for the help.
