87 klr 600 smoking good deal?
I am looking at buying a 1987 klr 600 with 12000 miles. when I test rode it it smoked for the first couple minutes. it also has black soot on the plastic that is near the exhaust. it also has oil underneath the engine but not anywhere else. it rides fine and ran well on the highway although it seemed to lack power. I have read about power restricted klrs that have 27 hp instead of 40 hp. Is this very easily uncorked? I thought a 600 dirtbike should pull a wheelie in 1st just fine, am I wrong?
I bought a 89 yamaha xt600 and was planning to fix it up but this klr is so much cleaner and better condition (except the smoke and oil) if the smoke is fairly normal and doesn't mean rebuild should I buy it? one last question, does $1350 usd sound like a good price for this klr? any advice would be appreciated, freethumper |

I wouldn't buy it, there's better deals out there. I see your in Portland so try Craigslist.org and check the Portland, Salem, and Eugene area. I found a 01 KLR in great shape for $2k in Salem. Spend a bit more and get a bike you don't need to put money into and yes a KLR is a bit gutless but reliable. I'm in Eugene and find allot of DRZ's XLR's and KLR's in our area cheap.
