Hello all,

I'm taking my first trip in May. I'm buy the bike tonight. Too soon? I'll be heading south from North Carolina, through Mexico, and on to Brazil. What kind of mods should I have? I know that a lot of people say it depends on what roads you'll be on. I don't have much expeirience on dirt, so I'll stay on as much cement as I can. I know that I'll have to eventually deal with rougher conditions which is why I want to be prepared. What are the basics? Any kind of advice for a first trip down South would be amazing!

Bryan

some spare parts worth carrying

spare clutch cable/s
a couple of spare tubes
some good tire irons
a pump of some kind
spare headlight bulb.
a can of WD40 for the chain
some blue locktite.
Zip ties, small roll of aviation safety wire, duct tape,
I carry spare links for the chain and a chain tool
a small electrical repair kit and test light.

You should do the doohickey and sub-frame bolt mods.

Take apart and grease the swing arm bearings.

Buy a UNI air filter if it doesn't already have one and or get a spare.

Find some dirt, you'll work it out.
Daren Gap may cost you time.
Pretend not to see police.

My best Buy....
A piece of inch thick sitting foam and some tape... To upgrade the seat.

It was one of those "OMG Wallmart, where have you been all my life!!" & "Why didn't i do something earlier!" after 20 000 miles on the stock seat.

Best Mod...
Removing pillion foot pegs and welding/attaching them as highway pegs on the front/top of the bash-plate..

Comfort, you will want it at some stage...
