Hi bikers and 4x4 drivers

I just wanted to know who of you guys are coming over for the summer 2006.

Please let the forum know what you plans are here in Iceland.

Hoping to come over summer 2007, or there is the option of coming over 2006 if I bring the family and going 4x4. The first option sounds the best to me, just need to earn some points with the wife first as she still still smarting after I left here at home this summer when I went to Nordkapp

Ill be coming over. Cant decide on shipping the Jeep over of riding the BMW.

How do you ride your bike over to Iceland? I guess you have to use a ferry?

How about shipping your vehicle from the east coast? What's the cost?

Coming over in 2007 to do some of the remote interior we missed in 2003 & 2004. Its very easy from UK - put bike in container with Eimskip (Cinquegrana - Eimskip cover 3 ports on the US East coast- Cost is about £400 from UK return). Iceland Express whisk you from UK to Rekjavik where the Youth Hostel provides an economical firstnight, but be sure to book way in advance for July/Aug (the best/only time for serious interior trips). Jakob's book has inspired us to go again. Also check out the "KLXZONE" website.

With UK trail bike riding being squeezed out of existence I can see the Icelandinc trails beckoning...

did you put yr bike in a container in the uk and then ship it to iceland?? or did you do this from the USA?

also....if you can ship if from UK 2 Iceland...can u do it in reverse???

Hello All.
I am hoping to go in early July 2006. However it is all subject to getting the documentation visas etc finalised in time.
My qoute from Eimskip (Immingham) for shipping the bike was a bit expensive at £742 return. I will take the ferries at about half the price, saving a return air fare, hotel accomodation, bus and taxi fares to/from airports etc. The bike will also be with me all the time, which is something I prefer, and I get to be able to ride around Shetland a bit

Having bought (and read) the book 'Iceland overland' last year I cannot wait to get there! It will be 2007 though. We plan on shipping the bikes from Rotterdam and taking the plane to get there. The only worry I have is: will I be up to it??? Especially the river crossings make me shiver and there's no opportunity to practice here! Anyway, not an exact reply to your message, sorry. cheers, Wim

p.s. the waypoints mentioned in your book: are they available as a file? It's a lot of work typing them all!

I have thought about putting all the gps data from Icelad Overland in a file and post it on the web. One of these days I will do it and post it here on the forum.

I have also thought about establishing a webbased database for trails and tracks used here in Iceland. The local riders community is at the moment gathering gps data for the trails and single tracks used by dirtbikeriders and enduroriders. Riding singletracks is banned here in Iceland, but we do it anyway, so we have hard time publishing those data.

REMEMBER there are three companies sailing from Immingham to Iceland: Eimskip, Samskip and Atlantsskip. The first one is most of the time the most expensive and the last one the cheepest. Compare prices before you book your trip with Smiril-line.

Planning to ship my bike (plus a friend's) to ride Iceland during summer of 2007.

I haven't read Iceland Overland yet but will shortly. Most people seem to be coming from Europe. I'll be coming from US. Getting quotes for shipping.

Lot's of questions but I'll post them a few at a time...

Me and a friend is coming over in August. I've ordered your book (if I got the "islandsk" right on the site) and the highland map you refer to in another post. Well, we're coming with Smyril-line from Bergen.

I'm a bit sceptical to how much we can see in just a week!?! The boat is using 5 days to get us home (3 days on F.), so to reach back to work we've had to swallow a couple of camels and go back early. At least that's what we've planned. Another option is to ride several more days on Iceland, skip boat (and the visit to Færøyene), put bikes in container and ship them back as we fly home. (boat is ordered both ways but it's always possible to cancel.

Is it "green" enough to camp at the island? Should we bother bringing camping gear? (tent, stove, dry food, water and so on) I would like to camp, but if it's cheap guest houses available the bikes is already loaded as it is.

Is it GSM-friendly in the highlands? What about fuel? I've ordered a larger tank for my xr650r, but I'm not sure if my friend (tt600r) will have extra capasity of fuel. If not, I'm considering taking my own tt600r as it is capable of taking a set of hepco&beckers.

I guess your book will answer some of these questions but it will take a week or so to get it.
