Tyres ?
Hi,
I'll be riding in Iceland next month. I'm coming from France so I'll be riding a lot on highways the get there. My 650GS has Tourances, do you think it's OK to cross the interior with it ? thanks

Tyres
I am currently on my way home from Iceland and have had to get a new rear tyre here in the faroes as the roads in Iceland are very very hard on tyres, i had michelin siracs with only 2000 miles when i arrived and in one week they were slicks. Also met a couple of guys from latvia on Harleys who both had to get new tyres in Reykjavik. It is not only the unsurfaced roads that are hard on tyres.

Hi
I am going in two weeks time, i will be using conti TKC 80 road biased knobblies for my trip in the interior. I am not sure if this is overkill, but from what i have read regarding sandy & very loose gravel it is the choice i will be happiest with, it is also the tyre i always use a good tyre for tarmac as well. Take a look at the Heidenau K60.

Just for info the MT21s that I fitted to my wife's Serow new before we left came back virtually wear free, travelled mainly tar, but also through interior and minor unsurfaced roads.
Basically this was only due to being a light bike and light load, big bikes will get more wear than normal - the aggregate they use in Iceland is hard on tyres (guess basalt?) and on unsurfaced it's variations on the same but loose and bigger. It is tough on tyres, especially weighty bikes. Willl eventually blog a report on here of the trip.
