Internet wifi access around Iceland
Guys,
starting to think about a tour around iceland in the summer of 2011, seems to be really good advice about everything else, but was wondering if any of you knew what the wifi access was around the country, or at least access to hooking up to the internet in towns away from the bigger places - reliable? available? Thanks Jupiter

doubt it very much as iceland is vast and about 80% live in the capital.my mobile phone only worked rarely! all the other places you see on the maps are really villages and not very big at all. you might be ok if your staying in hotels. the only mcdonalds i seen is in the capital. personally i left the computer at home and visited the internet cafe in the capital. hope this helps.

I traveled most of Iceland in '08. I camped, stayed at hotels, guest houses and hostels. I had no problem finding wi fi most of the time. There are a lot of guest houses scattered all over and most have it or a computer you can use. The hotels I stayed at had it (though I didn't stay at many) and the developed campsites usually had a computer or something to use. The interior of Iceland is the most remote and you either camp or stay in huts, so these services are obviously not available. Hope this helps.

WiFi -Internet Access in Iceland
I spent a couple of weeks last year on a motorcycle tour around Iceland following the Ring-Road road around the island.
Stayed mostly at hotels and guest houses. Most places I found provided internet access, some with WiFi access others with shared hotel computer |

Wireless Is Everywhere In Iceland
The only place we did not find internet so far was on the road to Askja! :-P But all the gas stations have it, as do all the camping places. At the moment we are in Mỳvatin and I am using internet while Patrick showers. We have only been camping so far and have had no problems whatsoever!

I found Iceland more tech savy than most of North America.
Wifi is very easy to find in any hotel, guesthouse, or gas station. I had no problem finding free internet with my netbook everyday during my 12 day tour around the island. |
