Iceland June 21

Is anybody booked on the ferry to Iceland leaving Hanstholm on June 21st? I am together with my Africa Twin and I wonder if someone is interested in teaming up to explore Iceland together, for all or part of the trip.

Patrick

Hi guys, your dates don't work for me. I am booked on the ferry June 21 and when you arrive, I am on my way back.

Have fun.

I'm booked now on Scrabster - Iceland on the 9th July. Going back on 24th July.

kevinhancock750 8 Apr 2008 16:30

me too

me and my mate are also booked for the 9th july but coming back 7th august so we'll see you on the boat. are you doing the hu meet franconian? i'll be leaving there and riding straight up to scrabster taking 2 days to get there.

Franconian 4 Jun 2008 23:20

Sorry for my late reply. Today my holiday was approved, so I'm definitely going to Iceland.

I start heading north on Saturday 5th July, so I might join the hu meeting. Do I have to pay the full participation fee? :confused1:

kevinhancock750 7 Jun 2008 07:37

not sure if you'd get in ripley as it's been booked up for a couple of weeks and as for the full fee i aint got a clue it's best if you ask grant. i'll be leaving the meet on the sunday afternoon and riding to hull (ish). my mate then rolls off the ferry monday morning at 8am and we'll be whipping it up to loch ness (400m) and camping (wild)at the side of lake to look for nessie! then on the tuesday will be strolling to scrabster and hopefully stopping at a bike shop to fit my tyres on the way. stopping in scrabster on the tuesday night as the ferry is early wednesday morning. you'd be welcome to join us if you like and i'll pm you my number closer to the date.

hi guys just wondering what kind of budget you were looking at for a few weeks and how much ferries were.i want to head out mid july then get the ferry to norway and do a bit of scandinavia aswell.will camp where possible and use CouchSurfing its free.cheers:thumbup1:

kevinhancock750 9 Jun 2008 15:10

iceland

getting there try this link.
www.seaview.co.uk/ferries/smyril_line/booking.html
or try smyril line themselves.
as for a budget i cannot really say as i've not been there before but there's nothing to spend your money on in the middle of nowhere! i personal will be camping wild and cooking all my own food to keep cost's down. so a tank of petrol every other day and some rice/pasta and stuff like that to eat wont make it too expensive.

Franconian 11 Jun 2008 15:35

Hi Kevin,

Probably I won't attend the HU meeting, as it looks like it's fully booked and I could'nt be there from the beginning anyway...

Would be great if I could join you guys, at least for a part of the trip. Maybe we meet at Loch Ness?

Do you buy new tyres in Scotland?

@camnz
The most expensive is probably the ferry. From Scrabster to Iceland it's about 180 EUR one way (bunk bed accommodation below car deck)

Cheers,

Frank

kevinhancock750 11 Jun 2008 17:26

no worries

meeting at loch ness no probs. i'll be carrying my tyres and changing them just before or after the ferry. it depends on if i see a bike shop and i'll give them just the wheels to change my treads. that way i'll leave my road tyres with them to fit on the way back. if not i'll do it all myself and hide the tyres somewhere.
sent my number in a pm to you.

Map of the road conditions

Hello guys
I see that some of you want to travel over Iceland on the highland roads.
Here is a link to a map that shows when diffrent rutes will be opened for the summer. Most of the roads are still closed due to snow or poor condition because of water from melting snow. The conditions are improving very quickly this time of year
This map is updated regularly
Fjallvegir < Vegakerfið < Vefsvæði Vegagerðin

If you happen to be in Reykjavik in your trip and you want to meet Icelandic bikers you can go to a street called Austurstræti witch is downtown near the harbour. They gather there every night when the weather is good just to chat and meet people.

kevinhancock750 13 Jun 2008 09:25

thanks

thanks for that joiben. it will be also be nice to chat with icelandic bikers whilst were there and find out more about bikers/people's lives in iceland etc. my mate with me (a journalist) is testing out a new f800gs and doing some write ups about the bike/people/island , i personally dont have nothing to do with this (before someone moans). i decided to go and then he tagged along so i'm kind of acting as a guide sort of thing with my gps as it's his first time at this sort of thing.
THE JOURNALIST WILL SUFFER...
he's always stopped in hotel's etc, but now he has a tent and bag!! ha ha
it should be fun. if you see us -f800gs and an africatwin please say hello.
