Scottish Mini Meet

Hiya!

Just to let you all know that there is another Scottish Mini Meet coming up...
This time it is in the Glencoe area which will provide us with everything that we need... a campsite, camp fire, a pub (if it's really wet!) and great roads!

When...

Friday 15th October - Sunday 17th October

Location...

The Red Squirrel Campsite http://www.redsquirrelcampsite.co.uk/

£8 pppn Showers 50p (although water is often hot anyway!?!)

Camp fires are allowed until 11pm, though sometimes later depending on who is on duty! We will need to buy some dry kindling & firewood (a £ or so each!?!), to get the fire started both nights!

If it is dry (ish...), everyone could eat & drink around the campfire. Otherwise there is a pub 10 minutes walk away...

Nearest Pub...

Clachaig Inn Glencoe Hotels - Clachaig Inn offers hotel accommodation in Glencoe, the Scottish Highlands
Good varied food menu.

So who's coming... so far...

Beej & Chris
Doug
Rob
Jake

Looking forward to some more replies,

Beej n Chris

Its Mikes birthday that weekend and we have plans to go to Skye, but plans are meant to be changed and this seems like a good cause. However I will have to persuade him that camping at Squirrel is better than a night in 5* luxury in Skye, it will be a difficult job but one that I will give my full attention to when he gets home from work.
Its a special 1 with a "0" on the end so I may have to supply birthday cake.

Just noticed its the start of the Beer Festival at the pub might be a busy place.

I hope you all have a good time at The Red Squirrel site, or Leacantium as it was once called.

I have many fond memories of that place, as well as the Bunkhouse just down the road, where our bikes were parked, with us, in the barn. There was no glass in the windows so it was a bit fresh in winter.....

I wonder if Sol is still there?

Have a great time one and all!!!

Tell Mike that we could have a Birthday Party! With a big cake and nice ! Also if he wants a comfy bed then you could always stay at the pub! I'm sure that you'd manage to get a few Birthday drinks too! It be great see you both again after both of our travels!

Will check with the pub regarding the Beer Festival! Looks like it would be good for the Beer though!

Thanks to Caminando for the best wishes... I'm sure we'll have a great time!

Hi Beej
Long time I had been away from HU. It is my mistake. Glencoe meet is a great opportunity to catch up with you all. I am now in India. On my return to UK next week will check my schedule and plan to participate.
Thanks
Chandra

Well in true biker form Mike has been persuaded/decided to swap the 5* in Skye for the tent in Glencoe so we WILL be there. Trying to get the couple we toured with this summer to come along, and another couple who want to give touring a try.
Beej He is NOT getting the option of the hotel a. it will be busy with the Beer Festival b. miss out on the camping atmosphere.

Do you think it would be a good idea to book out pitch or have you organised that already so we can get a space big enough and where we can have the fire as not all the pitches are allowed fires or that was the case last time we visited.

Well I am seriously thinking about coming along to my first HU event! We've just had a baby so I doubt if headquarters will let me out for the weekend, but I may be able to blag a Saturday night.
Also I've never been over to Fort Bill before so I'll get working on my brownie points.

Can you put me down as a definite maybe?

I will do my best

Hi Beej

The dates are just ten days after my wrist op - so i definately won't make it on the Bike - I will just have to see how it goes - Angus has said he will take me down but it will really depend how quick I am mending - maybe I will come down in the car - At this stage I think its safe to say i cant really confirm until a few days before -

Chandra it'd be great to see you again... it's been a long time since Ullapool! Hope your schedule works out.

It's good to hear that Mike will be joining us for his Birthday Weekend! Glad to hear that your persuasions worked Liz! Campsite says there is no problem with pitches for that time of year... they consider large groups 50+... there are no set pitches and lots of fire pits so I'm sure we will get a fire even if all the tents aren't next to each other. We will get in touch with the campsite once we have a better idea of numbers.

oldminiclub - your down as a definite maybe... we hope it's a definite though! Just let us know which night you can make it for so that we know to look out for you! Congrats by the way on the wee one!

No worries Bruce... we both hope that the op goes well and that you recover quickly so that you can come along! In this instance we will allow a car!

All are welcome, even if it's just for 1 night or for a run on the Saturday! The more the merrier!

I've spoken to Mrs Oldminiclub and I have permission!
So Mike which day is your birthday? I can already think of a great present but I'm not sure how to strap it to the back of the bike.

I've heard that the whisky can be a bit dogy at the local pub. So I am willing to come along ,and, at great risk to myself, test it for you.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
