Travellers Meeting in UK in ??

There has been a discussion/mail list to organise the meeting planned for this summer, but I've been asked to create a HUBB forum, so here it is.

Glynn Roberts is taking on the role of Organiser, so now we need YOUR help to find a location - and a volunteer host to help make sure the location is on board and ready for the thirsty hordes...

Oh yeah, and a date - August 9/10 has been suggested in the Midlands.

Constructive Comments/Suggestions?

If you think you know somewhere better, talk to the pub owner and / or campground owner, and see what they say, and let us know.

I suspect any solid suggestion will carry the day...

have fun!

From Joyce Hall, a very useful suggestion for a venue.

HI folks,

Can't offer any help at UK end as we're still overlanding in Oz, but I did make a suggestion some time ago for a venue. Try phoning Kev [Landlord] of Blackhorse Pub, Somercoates, Derbyshire, say that Joyce from PIL Rally Club suggested the venue [he's a member of PIL] The land for camping and the function room is usually free for bikers. Sorry can't offer any other help but will be back in the UK on June 4th and will endeavor to attend meet wherever it might be, transport permitting.

Quote from grant in a recent mail:

'and I understand Brighty and Glynn are doing slide shows, is that right? Now someone else needs to "name that tune" - I mean pub. I'd suggest July too, August is getting well into holidays? Have fun folks!
Grant'

Brighty (i.e. me) doesn't think he will be around to attend the meet, if it is in August, so it is unlikely that he will be showing anything (not that he has much of anything to show, since a certain unnamed publication lost many of his best pictures).

Should he be around, he'll show something, but it is unlikely that he'll be in GB in August.

hi
14 to 16 june is fine by me. i recon there is enough time: book the venue and camp site and everything else will sort itself out.

i have some pics to bore people with on saturday evening and can sort the attendance list.

if it is in derbyshire, somebody else would have to sort routes for dayrides etc. me being a southern softie, i don't know the area.

ps. i have a large mailing list to advertise the event to people and if grant puts it in the next few ezines, our marketing should be sorted.

I look forward to it.

It's possible I might be able to help the speakers out.

Anyone doing slide shows who needs kit (data projector, slide projector, screens etc).. I can probably get my hands on it.

Any tech kit needed, just ask.

All best,

Matt

hi
just visited the gs club of uk website (www.gsclubuk.com) and couldn't help spotting the fact that on 14-16 june, they have a 'summer event' 'near the lakes'. assuming some of the horizonsunlimited travellers and bmw gs riders are the same people, our proposed date or their date would be a problem.
talk to me.

Thanks Matt! Equipment help will be very useful I'm sure. Can we just assume you can take care of what's needed and leave that as your responsibility?

One job ticked off!

Chris, good spotting - can we come up with another date? Perhaps the following week?

Glynn, suggestions? Can you work something else out?

GLYNN just sent the following message to the ukmeets mailing list:

Subject to a venue being able to accomadate us.... in Derbyshire... 12th - 14th July

I need a host and/or 1 or 2 people to help me check out a venue... soon !

CHRIS replied:

12 to 14 july is fine for me. check above where joyce hall makes a suggestion of venue.

there appears to be NO clash of dates with the gs of gb club. :-)

because i live too far away, i can't host or check venues, but i can be the 'attendance secretary'. will also do a slide show, as already offered.

cheers

From Glynn, organiser extraordinaire:
=====================================

No one has been forthcoming in my request for help in deciding a venue.
This last weekend I checked out a few pubs in the Derbyshire area on my own.
All wanted to charge for a function room (including the Black Horse). I wanted the rally not to have to charge anyone for attending.... maybe in years to come when its an established event OK but as no one is sure what to expect...and that would also involve deposits... tickets... gate staff... etc.
THE MINERS STANDARD
Near Matlock in Derbyshire is my choice of venue because...
Camping in the the field behind the pub.
Charge for camping is £1.00 per tent per night.
Suitable function room
No charge for use of function room.
Good range of
Great atmosphere
Beautiful location
Good geographical location
Its available on 12-14th July

But I dont want to do this on my own.. come on... I want someone else to check it out and tell me what they think, the venue needs to be booked...

Glynn,

Sounds perfect, I'd suggest just do it - if someone -you! - says it's good everyone else is likely to be happy with it. And since no one has come up with anything better...

A fait accompli always works.

Thanks for taking the initiative on this, I'm sure everyone appreciates it!

wish we could be there,

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
