That's ten minutes of next June accounted for. Let's hope the rest of it will be as warm and satisfying

@ Senno; gnagnagna... ;-)

Anyway, enough of us, otherwise I'll get kicked for hijacking the thread...

Looking back and looking forward....

It's great to hear that people are already booking the time off to attend next year's event - fantastic!

By way of a review of the first HUBB UK event, we've compiled some of the overwhelmingly positive feedback Sam and I have received (including from the comments box in the bar) and put it together with a few of the volunteers' photos on this page.

We're all delighted by how much everyone enjoyed the event and found it valuable, but we're especially pleased that the idea of bringing together overland travellers regardless of vehicle choice worked so well. The comments about it being like "one big family" sum it up perfectly.

Nothing ever goes entirely to plan of course and there were a number of things that were less than perfect. It was a big learning exercise both for us (at a new venue) and for Donington Park Farmhouse (dealing with a new kind of event). We really appreciate all the suggestions for improving the event itself and the feedback about the venue facilities. We're taking careful note of them all and conversations have already happened with the venue about aspects that need developing or enhancing.

As for the aircraft noise.... it's the inevitable downside of having a beautiful site so close to an air freight terminal. Some struggled, but from what we've been told most people seemed to stop noticing (or at least being bothered) after their first night.

We'll be doing everything we can to make HUBB UK 2014 even more inspiring and memorable - the ideas are already buzzing!

Just a note from me to follow on from Iain's post. We are chuffed with how many people used the comments and feedback box that was on the counter in the bar. Thanks to everyone who filled a card in and many thanks also to everyone who has been posting brilliant feedback on forums and FB! Cheers

I've popped next year's dates in the diary, put me down for Thursday gate duties again Sam, it was a great way for a this first-timer to get into the spirit of things seeing everyone turn up.

Oh and I have already thought of a cunning boiler suited plan for 2014.

Nice one Alex and too right! It's one of the best possible ways to meet people and volunteers are key to helping set the mood - new to the HUBB UK or past attendees.
Cunning plan? I'll be watching the space

We both had an absolutley fantastic time. I was worried hubby would not enjoy it due to the amount of people and him not liking crowds, but he loved it.
Ed Marsh You are a legend. I have lost count of the times hubby has watched your Hitler video on youtube and I know he is watching it due to the laughter, never heard him laugh so much.
All the talks we went to were just brilliant, wish we could have went to more.
The trade stands, think I need to start working overtime for more goodies.
Even though we have bikes we were especially interested in the 4x4 travel something to look forward to in retirement unfortunately its a few years away.
The camp fire/oildrums what a great time.
Now the best bit The Road Kill Cook Out team You guys are the BEST. I couldnt believe how well hubby skinned & gutted the rabbit it surprised even me. Looking forward to claiming our winning 2 nights will contact you soonish.
Keeping my fingers crossed that I can get my holidays at the right time next year either that or I might just have to be "sick" for a few days.
Cant wait to make a return visit.
IT was THE VERY BEST long weekend ever
Liz & Mike

Yeah put me down for gate duty next year as well. It's the best way to meet folk and catch up with old friends as well as eye up all the beauties as they arrive ( I mean the bikes you filthy minded lot )

In fact, even if it turns out I can't afford the ticket I might just turn up to man the gates before buggering off home

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
