HUGS Weekend (Horizons Unlimited Glorious Scotland Weekend)

Hello Everyone!

The Edinburgh H.U. Community are planning an informal weekend 'travelling meet' for the weekend of 19th to 21st September. The plan - begun in the pub like these things are - is to put our money where our mouths are: As a community of travellers, surely the best activity for a weekend would be to go touring?

So the plan is this: have a number of times and places throughout the weekend where we will 'definately' be. That way, people can join or leave as they can manage/see fit. We are hoping this flexibility will encourage people to travel up from further south. Perhaps some of you with a couple of days leave burning a hole in your pockets could pop up to meet us on Friday or Saturday?

We've decided on an itinerary that shows our country at its beautiful best. Great views, superb roads, excellent food and drink and, like all the best trips; a ferry ride to an island! Here it is:

FRIDAY
4 pm: Official start: Castle Street, Edinburgh. DougieB will be there waiting!
6 pm: Tyndrum. Lovely chips at the real food cafe.
Overnight: Gorton Sands Campsite (on the Mallaig Road)

SATURDAY
Late Morning: Mallaig to Armadale ferry to SKYE! Perhaps Scotlands most beautiful Island. (Cost £12.90 bike & passenger)
1 pm: Lunch on Skye. Location to be decided. Back to the mainland via the bridge.
7 pm: Dinner at the famous Applecross Inn. The langoustines are amazing! Followed by beer.
Overnight: Applecross Campsite.

SUNDAY
The ride home. Across to the A9 and South. Lunch/Dinner locations decided on the day.

You will notice the itinerary is pretty sparse. We hope this will help keep the informal, relaxed atmosphere we intend for the weekend.

Please note, ** NOTHING WILL BE BOOKED! ** We're just going to ride and turn up like independant travellers do! However, at that time of year, there should be no difficulty. The campsites will be forewarned, though, just to keep things running smoothly.

This means you can choose to stay at the 'official' campsite, or another one, or stay in a B&B. You can eat with the pack or pack your own lunch. Whatever you like!

Please let us know if you want to come along though, so we have some idea of numbers.

EVERYONE WELCOME! :)

I'm up for this. I'll have to leave from Livingston :( but if there's an appetite for it can meet at the layby heading North just across the Fife side of the Forth Road bridge as close to 430 as I can....although I don't want to start a theme of meetups every few miles up the road!

Cheers

Matt Cartney 14 Aug 2008 14:18

For info. I will be leaving from Dunblane at about 4.30 pm. Will keep my eye out for possible HU-ers!

Matt :)

DougieB 14 Aug 2008 14:28

I was thinking of using the M9 to Stirling, and then A84 to loch earn then A85 to Tyndrum. The Edinburgh/Dunfermline/Stirling triangle will be busy with commuters at that time on a Friday, so no point getting bogged down in it. Therefore can arrange to pick you up along the way, Stirling services?

For anyone thinking of coming along, the details for Edinburgh:

Time: 3 - 4 pm, leaving at 4pm to miss the traffic
GPS: N 55 57.105 W 003 12.194
Streetmap: Streetmap.co.uk- search results

There are lots of 'solo m/c' parking bays all along George St (see streetmap), try to park in sight of Starbucks at the top of Castle St. There is no legal parking on Castle St itself, though I'll sit there with the bike (dark silver DL1000, reg: SK 07 ***).

cheers,
Doug

Matt Cartney 14 Aug 2008 14:37

In that case I will be at the Tesco in Calendar a little before 5pm. That might be a good spot for people from various parts to meet up? Not a firm arrangement, that can still be Tyndrum, just a 'pull in if you see my bike in the carpark' deal.

My bike is a Yamaha XT with Ally panniers and white tank. It looks knackered.

Matt :)

Chancer 14 Aug 2008 14:42

Count me in

Sounds like a good weekend and the route you have planned is excellent so count me in.

I will be leaving from Glasgow so will meet in Tyndrum at 18.00. Anyone else planning on heading up from the West of Scotland let me know and we could meet up somewhere in or around Glasgow.

Cheers
Trev

Matt Cartney 14 Aug 2008 15:02

Nice one Trev, you're the first non Edinburgh Community m,ember to sign up!

Matt :)

DougieB 14 Aug 2008 15:32

here's a google map of the main meeting points and times:

let me know of any additions/errors.

XRM 14 Aug 2008 15:48

Yeah Matt - I met up with Darren for the HU meeting in Ripley earlier on in the year and will be good to catch up with the rest of you guys

wanderingscotsman 14 Aug 2008 16:06

Stirling Services it is – I’ll try to leave work before 430 so you are not hanging around for me. Will be around the tourist office in the car park (not that you could miss me there) Will try to get there as close to then as I can. Will be on a blue DL1000 – “SX03 ****”

Doug – you have my phone number too so you can always give me a quick ring to say “too late – see you there ;-> “

Wasn’t thinking straight when I said Forth Road Bridge – it wouldn’t have been the first time I’ve headed across the bridge thinking “sh**”, confused which of the main two routes I bomb up north at the weekends on!!

Hi Trev - will be good to catch up again after the run down to and back from Ripley.

JimOD 14 Aug 2008 23:08

Lads! What have you done? If you'd picked the weekend before I could have tagged along. Sadly I'm working that weekend :( Still, I hope you have a good trip. :)

DougieB 14 Aug 2008 23:21

yeah, sorry Jim, but we heard you were unavailable that weekend... :-)

next time, there will be a next time soon I'm sure.

Matt Cartney 25 Aug 2008 17:05

In the grand tradition (ahem!) I propose this weekend needs a name which is an acronym including the letters 'HU' at its start.

I think the 'HUGS Weekend' (Horizons Unlimited's Glorious Scotland Weekend) adequately sums up the infamous cuddly nature of us Scots and have therefore changed the name in the subject matter of the thread. If anyone has a better alternative I will be pleased to hear it!

Hopefully this will encourage a few more of those flint hearted Englishmen and Women to join our trip! ;)

Matt :)

DougieB 25 Aug 2008 17:29

Apparently, due to the relatively hot spring we've had, there are 1/3 less midges up here this year.

cheers,
Doug

Matt Cartney 25 Aug 2008 17:31

Yep, it didn't rain in the west for about six weeks of spring, which killed a lot of them off. Its definately not as bad as it sometimes is. I'd still bring a headnet just in case, though!

Matt :)

Jake 25 Aug 2008 17:51

Count me in sounds like a nice meet and set up. Applecross is so nice for a night. I will be there probably with Helen, aim to arrive castle street about 3 to 3.30.

Jake.

wanderingscotsman 26 Aug 2008 08:59

I had heard 90% less midges!! Definitely not as bad as "normal"

tinker1955 9 Sep 2008 09:48

Ok, that does it for me - if you can guarantee 1/3 less midges then i'm in.
See you in Castle Street!
Tinker1955

DougieB 9 Sep 2008 10:05

money back guarantee, folks!!!

nice one, see you there.

Stily1 11 Sep 2008 11:39

Hubris!

How about HUBRIS?

Horizons Unlimited Bike Ride In Scotland.

Just kidding.

Very likely Cate and I will be on this ride, two up on our funky little black 2000 Honda Hornet.

AlexD 11 Sep 2008 12:43

I thought it'd been quiet over email, so this is where all the organising is going on! I'm in for this one, I think I'll go for Callander meeting point to allow me to take my time over there. I'm on an F reg Tenere, white tank and (mostly) black plastics. I've just put new knobblies on so I'll be taking my time.

Beej 11 Sep 2008 23:00

Scotland meet!!!!!

I was also wondering where everyone had gone as I'd had failed to find this thread until Dougie pointed out its where abouts!! Thank You! :thumbup1:

I'm up for the weekend (Chris will be working as usual!), but have a bit of a problem though as our tent is currently somewhere in Europe, probably in Poland with some friends who have borrowed it. Trying to locate another one to borrow for the weekend... will let you know!

If I manage to find one, I will finish in Motherwell by 4pm and so could probably meet up at Stirling Services... I think?

Beej

DougieB 11 Sep 2008 23:44

cool. let us know (here or by email) if you find a tent, and we'll keep an eye out for you. my other tent fell of the bike somewhere, so I don't have a spare anymore.

cheers,

Em and Hame 12 Sep 2008 08:11

Hi Matt,

Hope the meet goes well. Unfortunately Em and I are away the weekend of the 20th - 21st September, otherwise we'd be there...

Have a good one,
Hame

wanderingscotsman 12 Sep 2008 10:02

Beej - emailed you about a spare tent if you want to borrow.

Sounds like there are 8 or 9 folk now....hopefully I'll regain my bike love over the weekend!

wanderingscotsman 12 Sep 2008 10:24

I've pencilled in a group of us for munchies at Applecross Inn, 7pm on Saturday....no worries if this changes, just to make sure there's no surprises that evening if we're starving.
There's a wedding on in the village that night.

If anyone wants a change from camping, Applecross campsite has small wooden huts you can crash in. Can book online :
Camping Huts - Applecross Campsite - Applecross Peninsula

But...the first night won't have such luxuries...I thought about it until I realised I'd have to take my tent anyway.....

DougieB 12 Sep 2008 11:30

Cheers Darren.

Perth & Kinross (region) have a Doors Open day 20/21st Sep. I'll bring the booklet along, depending on what route we take back on Sunday, we may be able to pick out something interesting for a lunch/coffee stop.

wanderingscotsman 12 Sep 2008 12:22

Scottish Crannog Centre at Kenmore if we do any maybe!
Perth & Kinross

Laura Bennitt 12 Sep 2008 19:04

Hey everyone!

Hoping to make the weekend and meet you all - off to Arisaig this weekend too but with a boat not a bike! I'm Edinburgh-based so will join at Castle Street, only thing likely to stop me is work turning up in which case I'll let you know. Assuming the bike can survive another week without the service I've been trying to find time for since August...

Hope to meet you all soon!

Laura

Beej 13 Sep 2008 11:22

[quote=wanderingscotsman;206454]Beej - emailed you about a spare tent if you want to borrow.

-----------------------------------

Hi Darren,

Thank You... That would be great  !!!

Havn't found your email though! :( Will try to find your email address to sort out tent issues!

Beej

P.S. Looking forward to it...

Beej 14 Sep 2008 11:42

Hi everyone!

Well I believe that I'm all sorted for next weekend as I've just had an email from Darren saying that he has dropped a tent off at Hein Gericke for me to borrow... Yippee! :thumbup1:

Just need to get everything in my top box... could be interesting!!!!! Plus I'll be coming straight from work so I need to get my work stuff down to a mininum...

I should be at Stirling Services at approx 4:30pm if I find my way ok!?! I'm on a grey SV650 reg. SN08 ***. Just had a new exhaust put on so it now sounds lovelly!!!! Looks good too!

Looking forward to meeting everyone and to a fun weekend,

Beej :mchappy:

P.S.
Is someone keeping mobile numbers incase we miss each other at the meeting points?

MW2K8 15 Sep 2008 00:19

:scooter:

Unfortunately this seems it isnt a C90 friendly expedition....
Due to a top speed of 48mph, i would hold you all up

However, free teas + coffees in Dundee for anyone thats coming through this way...
:D
Your welcome

Hi there,

Where did you find this out from?
I have looked at the Cal Mac website and it says that the summer timetable runs until the 18th October. Has this changed? :confused1:

Beej

Matt Cartney 16 Sep 2008 13:00

Just to say that I've phoned Gorton Sands Campsite and they are open this weekend. (Phew!)

For those who want to check out the location their address is:

Gorton Sands Campsite,
Invercaimbe,
Arisaig,
PH39 4NT

Matt :)

Andysr6 16 Sep 2008 14:17

Hi, i was in Skye last weekend and intended taken the ferry to Mallaig but was informed by a local it was on the winter timetable.

Thanks for the heads up. I guess we should look into this as it might cause problems!

Matt :)

PS- On an up note, the weather forecast fro the weekend is looking quite good (yes, I know, it's Scotland, and three days is a long time in Scotlands weather systems!)

DougieB 16 Sep 2008 15:58

on the phone to calmac, still on summer timetable and plenty of ferries this Saturday. 13 bikes can cross at a time.

19th October is switches to winter.

cheers,

Matt Cartney 16 Sep 2008 16:05

Beat me too it! Got the same info. from calmac, they even phoned Mallaig for me to be sure!

Matt :)

DougieB 16 Sep 2008 16:22

I got put through to Mallaig to confirm bike spaces. :-)

Shaping up to be a great weekend.

DougieB 16 Sep 2008 17:02

Matthew, if you PM your mobile I'll txt you with Sunday's plan if it's anywhere near Dundee/south A9?

I never thought of that, but its a good point: the Mallaig/Armadale ferry is quite a wee thing from memory!

Matt :)

Laura Bennitt 17 Sep 2008 15:30

Stayed at Gorten Sands last weekend, there may be fewer midgies around but the ones that are left are determined to make up for it!! Road to Arisaig is a bit of a mess, the one-way traffic lights they have up for miles don't seem to apply to site traffic, so be prepared to dive into a gravel-filled ditch to avoid trucks & telehandlers coming the other way when you've got a green light!!

Should have asked them if I could leave my tent pitched really :oops2:

laura

Jake 17 Sep 2008 18:46

Just Confirming me and helen are coming along even though the sun is shining in the east this weekend also can anyone tell me Is there a pub /food etc at gorton sands or are we just on the campsite ? just so I know whats what.

DougieB 17 Sep 2008 19:10

Hey,

We're planning to meet up with the rest of the guys at Tyndrum around 6 pm, at the chippy (is voted Scotland's #1) for some dinner. I think we are expecting to get along to Gorton Sands between 8 and 9. By the time tents are pitched, etc, it'll be getting on a bit. I'll be taking a wee bottle to keep the cold out.

I haven't been to Gorton Sands, so am not sure what's there. I would expect nothing, if it's a farm site. But Laura, what's it like ?

'950 are you on a KTM, or something else?

Laura, are you still planning to come along to Castle St? What bike?

see you Friday,

cheers,
Doug

Tim Cullis 17 Sep 2008 21:15

Hi guys, hope there's room for one more. :)

Plan to stop overnight at Peterborough on the way up, and to arrive in Edinburgh 3pm or thereabouts.

bike: F650GS twin
mob: 07976 683999

DougieB 17 Sep 2008 21:17

always room for another. if any of the southern/far-away guys get into edinburgh early let me know and you can stick your bike in my garage (city centre) if needed. PM me for mobile.

cheers,
Doug

Jake 17 Sep 2008 21:44

dougie I sold the ktm miles were getting high and it started costing a bit so i will be up on my trusty/untrusty (depends on point of view) BMW r80gs.

Another body

My mate is going to meet up at Stirling Services as well so thats me, Beej and a.n.other at Stirling Services. I’ll try to be there at 4.30pm.
He’ll probably leave on Saturday as we come back over and head north to Applecross….

Beej and Doug have my mobile number. Fingers crossed for my bike – it’s still getting hot in slow traffic despite being in the garage, so hopefully it’s ok on the open road!!!

As far as I know there is nothing at the campsite but hopefully someone that knows more will reply…I know there is a hotel in the area, but I think that’s further north….that may be rubbish though as I’ve never stayed there. There is definitely a pub on the Saturday night and I’m intending eating there. On the way up we will be passing Callander (Tesco), Tyndrum (chipper and shop), and Fort William so plenty places to stop and catch us up later if we don’t all stop.

Getting busier! Getting on this ferry could be 'interesting' - its a long deviation back across the bridge....
ahhh, adventures.....

DougieB 18 Sep 2008 13:02

still under the 13 spaces available, just have to nobble any non--HU riders that are planning to get the ferry... I'll try to remember to bring along the timetable, so we can easily head up in two groups, early-risers and lazy-gits :-)

Re the weather, looks like all the roads will get a good wash this evening/tonight,and then it's forecast to be fair over the weekend.

Can I book my bike on the 'lazy-gits' sailing please? :)

I suppose it depends on how much of Skye you want to see before crossing back to the mainland. Those who have come from further afield, or who have not seen Skye before, may wish to rise earlier and ride further. I for one will be festering in my sleeping bag for a decent interval before rising to cook a liesurely bacon roll or two and coffee...

Matt :)

MikeS 18 Sep 2008 18:25

I'm afraid I've only made it as far as Croatia now so guess I'll have to miss out on this gathering. I'll be back in Edinburgh probably by next weekend though so I'll keep a look out on here for the next local pub meet... Have a good one guys and gals!

Debz 18 Sep 2008 18:45

Hi guys
Alright if we tag along? We'll see you on the Saturday at Applecross as we will stay with my folks in Forfar on the Friday night.

Looking forward to it.

Iain & Debz

DougieB 18 Sep 2008 19:01

yep, more the merrier. if you arrive at the campsite before us (I expect you may), let them know there's a few more coming. 7 pm is the target for eating in the Applecross Inn.

Mike, once you're back and suitably depressed about no longer being on the road send an email to the community alias and suggest a bar and a couple of possible dates.

cheers,
Doug

wanderingscotsman 19 Sep 2008 09:13

Sounds like a good crown coming along tonight.
Beej contacted me last night to say she found a nail in her tyre so fingers crossed she can get it sorted today.

Going back through the threads it sounds like there are up to 12 bikes coming along, 14 people…if everyone still makes it….

Just for an idea it looks a bit like this (I may have forgotten the odd person) :

Castle St :
DougieB – look out for a black DL1000 VStrom in Castle Street
Time Cullis
Laura Bennet (if work is ok!)
Adventure 950 + Helen
Stily1 (Seth & Cate)

Stirling :
Wanderingscotsman
Gordon (my mate)
Beej (tyre dependent!)

Callander :
Matt Cartney
Alex D
Chancer (he’s been quiet – just messaged him)

Applecross :
Debz

In Spirit :
MW2K8 and his C90…..thinking of us in Dundee

Look forward to meeting you all

Cheers

Laura Bennitt 19 Sep 2008 09:27

I'm definitely coming, no tedious work to get in the way. There is the sum total of bugger all at Gorton Sands (though it does have toilets, and showers that take 20p coins but the guy can give you some of them), so unless you fancy mussel-picking grab some food on the way up! Arisaig itself isn't that far but don't know what's there. Alterntively given numbers we could probably grab a cow from the field next door and have ourselves some steaks :thumbup1:

See you all later, I'm on a GPZ 500...

Laura

Gutted

Hi All,

I have had a right good dose of man-flu this week which I have bravely battled through however it has developed in to an ear infection which is affecting my bloody balance. While I can wobble about on a bike with the best of them I think this would be taking it too far.

The bike is ready to go however it is looking very unlikely that I will now be coming, health and safety and all that...

I am going to make a final call on it at 15.00 this afternoon and I will text Darren to let him know but to be honest I doubt I will be there :(

Hope you all have a great weekend. With the good weather I ordered I am sure it will be fab.

Cheers
Trev

Matt Cartney 19 Sep 2008 10:36

Heh heh, seems like there's a few last minute shenanigans going on, what with overheating bikes, nails in tyres etc. I have to dash from Edinburgh to Dunblane (where my bike is) and patch my pannier with a couple of bits of alloy before I'm ready! And still have to complete a mornings civil servanting!

See you at Tescos!

Matt :)

PS- Further to Dougie's mention of whisky, I have filled my hip-flask with Glenmorangie. Nothing like a wee malt to tip one off to sleep when camping!

Stily1 19 Sep 2008 10:48

Stily1 (Seth and Cate) confirmed!

Hi all, Cate and I are planning to attend. I've yet to pack, but have taken the day off just for this. Cate will meet up at George and Castle directly from work (keep your fingers crossed for me!).

We're on a black 2000 Honda Hornet CB600FS (the half-faired one) with soft bags and a Givi top case (can you say loaded?). Hey, it's not what you ride, it's how you ride, right? I could get this bike to most places I've taken my DL1000 in Canada (I said most, not all! I also didn't claim I wouldn't fall off in the process).

Seth's mobile
07825855065

See you around 3:30

wanderingscotsman 19 Sep 2008 12:47

That has to be the funniest reason for edit I've ever seen in a post yet!

Stily1 19 Sep 2008 13:05

In my defense

In my defense, before we moved to Scotland she went as Cat, but her new UK persona became Cate. :helpsmilie:

Hey everybody, thanks for a great weekend and especially to Doug for being our gracious cat-herder! Will have a look at the photos and post up any good ones soonish.

Tim Cullis 22 Sep 2008 11:28

Thanks for the company. I turned back whilst on Skye as my left boot had developed a leak and my foot was becoming frozen with the water. I bought a pair of boots and did a scenic loop round. The weather didn't seem to be getting any better so I decided to head south.

But then just kept going. I'd left Skye at about 1:30pm and arrived back in Eastbourne (700+ miles away) at just gone 1am. Warm bed. Wonderful.

Good to hear that you're safe & sound Tim if a little scweltchy (SP?). Darren & I were a little confused as we thought you were going off on your own in Skye but would meet up later at Applecross. Anyway... hopefully see you at another meet with 100% waterproof boots!

Thanks everyone for a great weekend... It was great to meet everyone and to discover some new parts of Scotland!! When's the next one?

Jake 22 Sep 2008 16:50

Another Thankyou to the scottish section for a great weekend - with scottish weather, miserable campsite owner but otherwise great company, wonderful roads and scenery as always. Hope to meet you all again . Matt I hope your feeling better you looked terrible when we left you and Tim - shame you missed Applecross a real highlight and the sun came out about 4.30 ish - but glad your safe and well. jake and Helen and the bilge pump.

Hi everyone
It was great to meet you all on Saturday at Applecross, it was a good night! Hope you enjoyed your ride home yesterday. Hope to see you all again at the Tan Hill Mini Meet.

Iain & Debz

wanderingscotsman 23 Sep 2008 08:57

Good to hear you are ok Tim as we were a bit dazed at where you had went. That's about the first time I've ridden with other folk so thought you would have stopped us if heading home.
I'd apologise for the weather, but that's what I get most times in Skye so welcome to the club! Unfortunately for you, but good for us, it did stop raining by the time we got to Portree and that was it for the weekend.
Was looking forward to quizzing you about your trips, so hopefully the next time!

Matt Cartney 23 Sep 2008 12:40

Good to hear people had a good time. Definately up for a repeat performance next year (in different areas perhaps, with pre-booked campsites!). Sorry about wimping out on the Saturday, I felt awful. Weirdly I was OK by Sunday (if a little stiff and fuzzy) and wished I'd stuck it out. Still, got out for a few miles on the pushbike in the sun, so all was not lost.

I think next year the Friday night might be better further south to encourage more Southerners to come up and avoid turning up at a campsite at 10pm! I would also be up for making it a long weekend, say onto the Monday and doing a bit more island hopping. Anyway, plenty of time for plans...

Matt :)

DougieB 23 Sep 2008 14:05

would be good to meet somewhere in the borders, next day up in the southern highlands, opposite side, then down again to the borders.

say, selkirk, glen clova, drovers inn (loch lomond) and then down to dumfries somwhere. so the southerners don't have such a long stretch to join or leave. in a sort of square circle.

next time we all meet for a beer, let's chuck some ideas around.

Matt Cartney 23 Sep 2008 15:59

Sounds like a good idea, while the North West is stunning, its a bloomin' long way to come for some people and there are some great roads in the southern highlands.

Matt :)

Piccies ?

Photos, did you guys and girls not take any photos? I'd love to see them if any of you did, it'll make up for being stuck alone in that other Celtic part of the world, Brittany.

Laura Bennitt 12 Nov 2008 19:50

I did, hang on, can I make technology work well enough to post them...:confused1:

Hmm, no clearly not :oops2:

one more should do it!

Chizz 15 Jul 2009 23:24

I also need to add a post in order to PM folk - but thought that whilst I am on I would ask if there any plans for another Scotland trip in 2009. I am based in Inverness and ironically was at a rally in Skye the weekend you travelled up last time. A mate was broken down in Lochcarron and whilst waiting for a recovery a load of adventure bikes road by ! - now I know it was you lot - keep me in the loop if there turns out to be something arranged for this year

Cheers

Chizz

Jake 16 Jul 2009 09:08

It would be nice to get together for another scots meeting, maybe with an earlier arrival destination (daylight/dryish and someone pleasant that would let us camp on the site we booked) also a nearby pub would be good. Beej how about you getting it on the road ? then you will get loads of posts on here to get you up to speed - see that put you in charge already (ps hows the tent?).
Got to say did not see anyone broken down on the last run - shame cos I am sure we would have - with our combined heads knocked together and tool sets rattling - saved him a recovery and got him on the road again.

DougieB 16 Jul 2009 11:38

I'd be up for this. though I'd prefer to stay to the east (the west is wet, full of tourists and midges :-) )

a possible alternative is up the tomintoul road through the cairngorms, there's a decent campsite up at Granton. plenty of wild-camping just past Glenshee. there's also Glen Isla or Glen Clova, both of which have great pubs (Glen Clova being better).

another alternative would be a one-nighter down at Jedburgh. there's a caravan club campsite there that has a wee nook just off their main site. it would be ideal for ten or so tents/tipi's, and is out of the way of everyone else.

Beej is away for a 5 week euro-tour at the moment. so, you're in charge ! :-)

cheers,
Doug

Jake 16 Jul 2009 15:32

Hi Doug - remember - problem is I'm English - wrong side of the border - I've organised several mini meets in Northern England - maybe someone else's turn - but if no one else volunteers then I can sort something in Scotland - if the proud chaps and chapesses of Scotland will accept being taken for a ride by the English ! - Jake.

DougieB 16 Jul 2009 15:46

I don't mind sorting a route and places to stay, being from the right side of the border :-)

so....

timing: last weekend in August?
location: somewhere in the Cairngorms

anyone else?

Jake 16 Jul 2009 16:00

That's a bank holiday( in England dont know about over the border) so it will be pretty busy) but its ok for me. Jake.

DougieB 16 Jul 2009 16:11

12th/13th Sep?

bank holiday is probably not a good idea.

MikeS 16 Jul 2009 16:55

Would also be keen for this too. Could prob do the 12/13th Sept

Jake 16 Jul 2009 21:12

12/13 sept not best date for me might be away(not arranged yet but very likely to be away a week or two) but go with it and if I am here I will come along.

Chizz 17 Jul 2009 13:59

Hopefully would be able to do weekend 12th/13th but may also be away - have time off work the week before so could be good.

The bike broken down was Buell with a broken belt - we were in lochcarron the bike still in applecross - so i reckon all thetools in the world couldn't of fixed that one!

I will keep my open to see if this date is confirmed and will let you know as soon as poss if I can come - cheers

XRM 18 Jul 2009 10:33

I will be back in the UK on the 6th September, so am interested in this.

DougieB 18 Jul 2009 15:37

what about the weekend after, 19th / 20th?

by the way, I think if the Jedburgh campsite are willing to take us then it'd be a good option. plenty of (road) routes around there too.

cheers,

doug

Jake 18 Jul 2009 16:44

That would be good for me dougie but see what fits in with everyone else ,Jedburgh or the places further up north on the east side sound good options also cheers Jake.

JimOD 19 Jul 2009 01:34

I could make either of those weekends. I'd maybe be up for this run.

Chizz 19 Jul 2009 09:55

Cant make 19th - will be at the rally in Skye again - arranged to meet some mates coming over from Ireland so cant let them down. Still be interested to meet up with you guys at some point so will keep my eyes on this thread and see what you decide

Chizz

pheonix 20 Jul 2009 20:28

New to HUBB and it would be good to have a chance to meet some of you as I couldn't get to the derby meeting.
I'm possibly away 7-11th Sept but may be able to do that weekend or the following one if in Jedburgh as it's easy to ride up on the Saturday morning if I can't do the friday :)

*Touring Ted* 20 Jul 2009 21:40

Sounds brilliant....

Shame those dates clash with the HU Meeting in Malaga. I cant ride back that fast lol. :(

FlatEarthRidersGroup 2 Aug 2009 20:05
