Cornwall 2013 mini meet?

I was wondering if there is going to be a Cornwall mini meet next year, I went to the one in 2011 and really enjoyed it but missed last years as I was away. Are there any plans for one in 2013?

Mick O'Malley 4 Dec 2012 09:32

A friend from Porthcurno told me that there was probably going to be a UKGSer meeting in Treen this spring...................

Hi Mick, yes I have heard about that one, I went a couple of years ago and had a good time.

becsta 4 Dec 2012 21:31

I am going to be in Cornwall in 2013. Not on the bike though and with my parents. I am so excited as I have never been to Cornwall before. We will be there the last week in May for about 3 nights.

shame you missed it , Rossi put on a excellent weekend of trail rides ,talks ,and doombarbeer you can count me in if it's on

lonepilgrim 5 Dec 2012 11:34

Could be up for this as I'm originally from Plymouth and can combine it with a visit to see the folks etc - will all depend on dates due to work :(

rossi 17 Dec 2012 23:12

Glad it is becoming a popular event. Tiffany emailed me the other week go ask the same question.

I actually hadn't got around to planning anything yet. I start a new job in January and Becky is very busy with her current job too. In fact she only stopped working at 10 tonight and was asleep by 10:30. Whoever said that teachers finish work at 3:30...

With the way things are I am going to have to give it a month or two and see how busy I am going to be before I commit to organising anything. The benefit of that is the weather may improve slightly, unless anybody else feels like taking it on this year.

Tiffany 18 Dec 2012 21:43

sorting out...

Hey Iain (Rossi)
no pressure, but if you want help to arrange one and lay it on I'm sure there will be plenty of folk who can help out. You do such a great job. I've got my own commitments down at this end of Cornwall in 2013 otherwise I'd suggest helping out. Maybe Blue Hills can host us near St Agnes?? A beautiful part of Cornwall.

Hi Akceller, sorry about the late reply, no probs with an email with a few details ie big tent/ small tent, No. of people etc and a deposit via PayPal on the website bluehillscampsite.co.uk
I need to know numbers ASAP
I can put up a small marquee and get some beer in, prepare a firepit and Loo said she will do a big pot of chilli. I can even take someone up for a fly in my microlight to see Cornwall from the air (weather permitting)
I will need some commitment on the numbers to make it happen.
I can do an off road ride if a few are interested.
The cost is £6.00 for one person in a small tent per night with free hot showers etc.
We could also show a short film with some cool music on our RTW trip from a few years ago.
Hope to meet old and new friends and chat about bikes and travel
Gary

akceller8 18 Feb 2013 09:39

Hi Gary,

email and deposit sent, excitement building, lol.

Count me in for chilli if its not toooooo hot but I'll stop off at Healeys to pick up some scrumpy on my way.http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...ilies/beer.gif

I'm up for a little gentle off-roading, I've got a Triumph Explorer but not much dirt experience but eager to give it a go, especially with experienced assistance along for advice.

See you then.

In the interests of the HUBB community, Anna and I had gone up to St Agnes to conduct tireless research (and have a couple of glasses of wine). I can't believe the stealth paparazzi managed to sneak in as well and not only take this photo but also post it on the web!!:confused1:

Unaccustomed to public speaking as I am, I should be able to put a few words together. I will bring a stick with a few photos on. Will there be any kind of powerpoint etc?
I'll be coming on my little 250 as its big brother is still looking decidedly worse for wear after all those miles.

Hi all, could you confirm the dates for me please, I had a scan through but didn't see it. I came to the first one a couple years ago and would like to return this year if possible.

Ah, found it 5-7th April, I may not be able to make that date it's my sons 10th birthday on the 6th. I'll see if he will change it to the week after ;-)

Thanks Jim

Mark 15 Mar 2013 11:14

Hi all,

Another two signed up. Me coming from near Guildford and my mate Billy from Bristol.

My wife and I returned 18 months ago from an 18 month trip from Alaska to Patagonia on early 1990s XT600s (me on a Tenere, my wife on a XT600E). mostly keeping to the back roads. In 2000 the same bikes did UK to AUS & NZ.

Looking forward to this event (it is much warmer in Cornwall, isn't it?)

Hi Tiffany,

I look forward to meeting you too.
Yes, I plan to buzz down on the old Tenere. Hopefully my TR250 will be reassembled in time to move it out of the way to get the Tenere out from the back of the crumbling stable!

Interesting photo Mez, I fear they are Piskie Kerlows Tifanias, in the pupa stage. they can be seen in early April, drying their wheels in the sun, before whizzing all over the place. They can swarm on wine or chocolate, so be careful. May get a sighting at Blue Hills.

That's great- we'll have quite a few old Mongolian hands at this event. Look forward to swapping stories over a glass of wine. Also I have a travel proposal for you and Nads...:innocent:

Meanwhile Loo and Gary are trying to suss out numbers for ride outs - the road ride out is organised, they're wondering how many are interested in the off-road ride out?? Karl and Mavis are, come on the rest of you....:scooter:

Hey Tiff - will be great to see you and have a good old jaw! jeiger

I'll be on my Hornet so wont be able to do off road......but there is a chance I might arrive on my long suffering all terrain pizza delivery bike, a veteran of many places unsuitable and verboten.

Itching to come on my first meet to partake in a few beer & listen to tales of peoples adventures to whet my appetite for when I retire & have the time to start on my "bucket list". Speakers

Of course we're going to have good weather!

Anyone else who wants to do a talk or presentation??
It's a good opportunity to try out presenting with a small but supportive audience, in preparation for potentially doing one at the HUBB UK or just becaue you fancy giving it a try.
It's always great to hear new people giving talks. 45 minutes, or less if you prefer- the time flies, believe me!!
We've got Dan doing a talk about riding to Mongolia, so come on the rest of you....

rich g650x 30 Mar 2013 21:28

Sounds like you have enough Mongolian tails, but after a few beers I might not be able to hold my tongue. I’ll but a CD of photo’s in my bag just in case but I always have that mac to PC compatibility problem so can’t say for sure. Anyway would be good get inspired again. See you all there.

Belle 1 Apr 2013 20:12

Me and Nads will do one if you still need some. We can focus on what we rode and how we prepared and leave the Mongolian bit out.

Tiffany 1 Apr 2013 22:43

Beer and Chilli

As Loo and Gary are sorting out some of the catering needs for the weekend, they do have a couple of questions...
Beer,,,and how much. beer They're happy to order in and get the beer stocked up as there isn't a pub nearby so we'll be having a marquess masquerading as a beer tent- please would you let us know approximately how much you might like- it's Cornish ale type stuff or Rattler if you're lucky (and if you don't know what Rattler is then you're in for a treat)

Also on Saturday night there is going to be a big pot of chilli with bread- again, they'd liek to have a orugh idea of numbers and if there are any veggies as there will also be a veggie chilli. A few quid to chip in for food costs.

So please post up your beer and chilli requirements or PM myself or Loo and Gary.

Mark Manley has also offered to do "What to Pack and How to Pack it" Seminar- Loo has subtitled it "pair of Pants and a Credit Card!!"
pants and a credit card

Rich and Belle, I think we may be taking you up on your offers of talks, so be prepared. :D

Tiffany 1 Apr 2013 22:45

OH....

Just realised that when I've typed in the B E E R word, the website automatically puts in the graphic for it instead!!

Making us look like a very beery lot indeed!!

Belle 2 Apr 2013 20:19

Hey Tiff - some veggie scoff for me please but Gordon and Nads will eat meat. As for drink....just minimal cider rations for us. (if it is cider...none of us are big drinkers)

Cheers (ha)

BTW -talk is sorted if required.

This looks like it's going to be a good one.
Many thanks to those who have responded with beer, cider, chilli and ride-out requests.
The weekend does not bode well for me as I've managed to lock my tent and pillow in my sister's car AND lost the keys!!
and errr, she doesn't know yet:rolleyes2: as she's overseas till Saturday.

Not sure what to do, but Tall Girl Anna is coming to help me out tomorrow and then after a 12 hour shift at work I'll be riding on up to St Agnes to see you all.
So if anyone is around to put up my reserve tent (like a parachute I always have a spare) before I get there at 10pm, I'll buy a couple of beers for the helpfu bod.
And in case you're wondering...Anna is going to deliver it so it's ready for my arrival. ooooh the life of Riley with a support vehicle.
