STOP PRESS: Proposed date: 14/15/16 November, Venue: Tan Hill

Hi People
Hope your summer was good. Anyone interested in another meet?

Dates? Please advise when's good/not good between now and December.

Location? Tan Hill and Cropton spring to mind. Suggestions/Comments?

Hope to catch up with you soon.

Cheers
Chris

Brian E 2 Sep 2008 17:47

Oct is not good for me but whatever date you decide on I will try and make it my preference is for Tan Hill.

Joe C90 2 Sep 2008 21:02

I vote november.
with a bit of luck we may see snow!!!:thumbup1::Beach:

Harley Davidsons,

I'll come on my Harley!

reefshark 2 Sep 2008 21:34

Derek2031 2 Sep 2008 22:55

Great idea, Count me in too! Any time is a good time...:thumbup1:

Joe C90 3 Sep 2008 00:50

Northern meet, in rufty tufty land, in winter,
Who turns up?
Loads of southerners, a harley rider that actually has seen weather, A fat bloke (sorry bri) who can ride an enduro bike faster than I have ever seen on the back wheel, brighty on his prehistoric ta600 and various other waifs and strays.

What a mix. Don't you just love bikers!!!!!

Fantastic. Looking forward to it.

AlanWT 3 Sep 2008 08:28

I'm in. Late October would be best for me. No preference to venue, as I don't know where either is!

Alan

Debz 3 Sep 2008 21:58

Excellent idea - count us in. November better for us but we'll be there whenever it is. Both locations have lovely beer. Dog poo was an issue for campers at Cropton last time but if it's in November it'll be frozen and shouldn't cause a problem! Tan Hill has option of bunk house for those who don't want to camp. Where ever it is, we can be sure that it'll be a good weekend, looking forward to it already.

I thought the issue's where me leaving a bike in the forest overnight:oops2: and then returning a bike three hours after promised.:nono:

Nov 1st 2nd is my choice.

Jake 3 Sep 2008 23:21

Hopefully I will be there on the new all singing all dancing Bilge pump, a new venue would be nice to try out but I will go any where anytime except Dent. I cant get in the last week of October and start of first week in November cos me and helen will be on the bike over in Germany. Be great to see everyone again though as I missed ripley this year .

chris 9 Sep 2008 20:33

15/16 November at Tan Hill

I propose 15/16 November at Tan Hill (for those who have never been: Yorkshire Dales Accommodation - Swaledale - Arkengarthdale - Tan Hill Inn - Ensuite Bedrooms - Special Breaks - Weddings - Functions - Meals ). This seems to fit most people's schedule.

I do need to call them, but I'd be surprised if camping at that time of the year would be a problem. I recall its 2 quid to camp (donation to mountain rescue), 20ish quid in the bunk house or sleeping in the bar and they have proper B and B accomodatiuon too. Please book your own B and B with them directly, if you want it.

The food and drink is excellent, the landlady swears a lot and you will probably have to climb over sheep to get in and out of the bar.

If you've never been to a Northern Mini meet, please be advised, nothing is formally organised. We arrive, eat, drink, ride bikes, talk bollocks in whatever proportion you want and leave again. No slide shows, no how to change tyre lessons, certainly no yoga classes, nor talks on why you chose a certain bike/tent/stove to cross Africa.

Will however burn an effigy of Charlie Boring.

Please reply here if you are coming.

Your humble serf,
Chris

I've have a few ex girlfriends who parting line was that was all I did (Eats, Shoots and Leaves)

I'll make every attempt to make it along although the Dirt Bike Show is on and a local Timed trial on the Sunday so it might be a flying visit returning North from the great trip South so I will confirm at a later date my arrival and departure.

agree with burning the effigy of the fat one who road with Euan.

Brian Eland.

Jake 10 Sep 2008 15:24

I will be there so its bound to piss down and blow a force 7/8. So its only the saturday/sunday going by your dates chris friday evening not on the agenda then. If people are going up on the friday I can make that day as well.

Rick 58 10 Sep 2008 16:25

15th/16th Nov is good for me. About time I made the effort to go to a meet. I'll see if I can drag the Cameraman up there with me.

Serows hunt in packs you know!

reefshark 10 Sep 2008 20:01

ill try and make it to add to the serow pack

Debz 10 Sep 2008 20:27

Hi Chris, count us in, we'll be there.

Jake, we'll be going on the Friday, just to make sure the beer is in good order you understand.

Does the hunting pack of serows let pink ones in?

chris 11 Sep 2008 09:06

Friday too!

Friday is also included. I'll come straight from work, will arrive mid evening.
Chris

Xander 11 Sep 2008 09:58

Can Mrs.X and I pencil ourselves in too please (although with our jobs it is hard to book something so far in advance. )

ElChico 14 Sep 2008 14:50

Count me in as well please

I should be able to make Tan Hill, and will possibly be encouraging a friend to attend with one of them unreliable BMW's 1150GS, if he's not fixing his paralever bearings for the 4th or 5th time... (snigger).. they're hopeless without the back up vehicles and BM mechanics flying in when they go wrong. Oh no, I just started a war probably!!
Hope to see you all there, Cropton was a hoot last time.
Cheers
and no offence to BM riders - honestly, I'd have one if it was free..
Col

mustaphapint 14 Sep 2008 19:29

Would like to come, but can't commit. I'm just starting a new contract based in Portsmouth next month and I don't know yet how I'll be fixed for getting time off.

jaber 15 Sep 2008 20:24

14/15

These dates are fine by me, the only choice I have is Enfield vs Serow Mmmm

Steve

reefshark 15 Sep 2008 22:36

you know the serow makes sense:clap:

Flyingdoctor 16 Sep 2008 01:48

The Serows are coming out of the woodwork!

Fritz 16 Sep 2008 12:35

Provided there is nought else booked that w/e we'll be there - not in pink :0
Confirm nearer ;)

chris 18 Sep 2008 16:12

I called Tan Hill the other evening and they are fine with us coming.

Austin 19 Sep 2008 23:39

I think I might come to this too.

DougieB 21 Sep 2008 22:09

After meeting the roving (raving?) ambassadors this weekend up here, I'm in. Anyone else from the Edinburgh-ish area interested in riding down?

Will pitch up Friday.

cheers,
Doug

AlexD 22 Sep 2008 14:24

Provided nothing vital shakes itself of my Tenere between now and then I'll be another addition from the Edinburgh crowd.

After coming back from my first HUBBER meet I'm ready for my second!!

What time would we need to leave on the Friday and when would we be back? Can't get any time off so I'm restricted to Fri evening (possibly from 1ish if I've started my new job by then!?!) and need to be back on Sunday eve for work!

Beej

Jake 22 Sep 2008 16:44

Beej from Edinburgh to Tan hill should take about 3 hours down the A1 then across to Barnard Castle. Hope that helps with your timing. Be good to see the Edinburgh crowd down here Jake / Brad / Brian !!

chef jules 22 Sep 2008 18:20

Northern mini meet

Any Sunday Im in. Need directions nearer the time. Is there a list of biker friendly stops Europewise, cafes bars guest houses hotels etc ?. Maybe this could be adressed at meet:scooter:

wanderingscotsman 22 Sep 2008 19:34

I should be in as well - have a potential clash that weekend but think this one will be the winner...
Great to see a couple of you at the 'real north' mini moving meet over the weekend at Arisaig and Applecross.

Thanks for that... definately sounds do able! Are the date's confirmed? If so Chris can start the process of asking for a weekend off! Hopefully he will be able to wangle it! :thumbup1:

Beej

DougieB 23 Sep 2008 22:30

so, with a few of the Edinburgh coming down together I don't need to buddy anyone down. I'm going to come down by bicycle (assuming I get the Surly fixed up in time).

Does anyone know an open-in-November camping place about 80 miles along the A68? How long is the A68 by the way? I reckon a hilly 80 miles is do-able in a day (for me!).

I'm heading onwards to London for meeting afterwards. As the government allows something like 14p a mile, it should be a nice little earner!

chris 24 Sep 2008 10:06

The date is confirmed.
Chris

The Cameraman 26 Sep 2008 06:52

Mornin' Chaps & Chapesses,

if I can tweek my working rota, it's possible I may be able to get there for the Saturday night, as it would be rude not to accept Dazzer's kind offer of some beer (probably only be a half though, as he is a true Yorkshireman)!

I'll know nearer to the time and will advise accordingly.

Afterall we Serowist's need to keep together in a herd don't we.

80 miles from where and why does it have to be on or near the A68.

if you want a Campsite 80 miles from Tanhill travelling from Edinburgh look at the campsites at Bellingham.

DougieB 26 Sep 2008 08:41

80 miles from Edinburgh. And along the A68 as that's the route I'll be taking. Trying to avoid cycling lots extra just to find a campsite.

Bellingham seems to be 79.5 miles from Edinburgh, which is perfect.

thanks

Brian E 26 Sep 2008 21:41

Honestly the A68 is lethal on a pushbike yes you need to use it to cross the border then after Catcleugh turn right through Kielder then follow B roads to Bellingham then B roads to Hexham, Blanchland, Stanhope, Bowes, Tan Hill.
This route is presuming you are on a pushbike the only killer hill is out of Stanhope and it is a good-un.

DougieB 26 Sep 2008 22:30

yeah, done the A68 enough (by moto and car) to think it's a bit dodgy on a bicycle. But, I need the practice for some planned trips.

thanks for the tips, re getting off the A68. if I make it to Tan Hill I'll buy you a beer. I'll be the knackered one in the corner, with the shorts on...

northern mini meet

Any thing decided yet..Im a new fella to the HUBB and would like to attend a gathering. Any date fixed? Tan Hill ? I have to leave Wirral late Saturday night [work comittments] to join up Sat night and Sun morn. Its worth it just for the ride, but be nice to have a cold beer waiting.

Jake 1 Oct 2008 19:07

You will be most welcome along with any other newbie to the HU there will be a cold beer waiting .............................the pubs got pumps full of the stuff

But saying as your asking I will get you one in Look me up - depending on the time you get there I will be sober, a little tipsy, getTING LOUDER, (A LOT TIPSY) VERY LOUD (Steaming drunk) then you wont get any sense at all.
Come to think of it you wont ever get any sense at all no matter what state.

chris 1 Oct 2008 19:56

The first post in this thread has been updated with the details: Tan Hill 14/15/16Nov
See you there,
Chris

Birdy 2 Oct 2008 09:59

Is this one hundred percent definitely confirmed?

Do we need any kind of booking, or do we just turn up and have fun? What kind of numbers are we looking at?

Tan Hill is a bit of a trek from Lincoln, but I would like to add my name to the party.

It is as many percent confirmed as you want it to be. We've set the date. We've decided a place. I will be there. Several others have also said they'll be there. If the weather's rubbish the day before (which in mid November in North Yorkshire is guaranteed), less people will come. See post number 31.

We are planning a ride to Richmond:scooter: on the Saturday morning to go to the Alt-berg shop :thumbup1:. Mrs.X needs a pair of boots and i may get a 2nd pair.

So if anyone is interested going with us please feel free. I was only thinking that if a large group of us decide to head that way all at once it may be nice to warn them. The factory shop is kinda small. See you in the ice and snow..:thumbup1::thumbup1::thumbup1::thumbup1::thu mbup1:

Birdy November in the dales is a breeze - certainly not the grip of winter as you seem to think. Sun will shine and we all make hay - or something like that.

Chris rumour is that you are bringing your mate, Ewan and his Charlie.

Slightly more worried about my clutch cable making sparks, but I'm sure lots of electrical tape around the heated grip cables with solve that one :confused1:

Tan Hill... maybe next time!

Hi All,

It doesn't look like Chris & I will be making it to Tan Hill this weekend as I've been off work since Wednesday and doesn't look like I'll be back at work tomorrow either. Chris pointed out that after 3 days off work heading off on Motorbikes in the freezing gale force winds that we've been having probably isn't the best idea in the world!!! :stormy: He's probably right! :freezing:

So it looks like it will have to be the next one!

All that do get there, have a great time,

Beej (& Chris)

Flyingdoctor 13 Nov 2008 16:27

I've got a problem with snot too! It's streaming out of me and that's in the house. I'm going to brave it though so I'd better fit a bib for the ride up. We all know how bad it can be once on the move. Hopefully it'll be blown away by the time I get to Tan Hill. I plan to get there in the daylight tomorrow, see you all there.

Birdy 13 Nov 2008 16:45

I'll be there, either latish on Fri, or earlyish on Sat, not sure how long it is going to take me so I can't get any more accurate than that!

AA says it is 195 miles via main roads, 245 back roads. If I manage to make a steady 40 mph and don't eat, piss or smoke, or breakdown, or get lost, I estimate the trip will take six hours. Bugger me.

I'll be there some time on Tuesday morning then.

Looking forward to it.

You can scratch one off of your list, the other one I was bringing is scared of all the trolls and rain oop north so he has cried away.

Joel

Have a great time everyone, it should be a big turnout!
Unfortunately I won't be able to make it as I previously stated...a bigger/last minute plan has gotten in the way - I'll be heading up to Nordkapp on Sunday from Harwich. :mchappy:

Enjoy and pls post some photos!
cheers,
Derek

I'm out

I'm afraid I'm out this weekend too...sorry for the short notice - not been on HUBB so much and hadn't got the subscription updates. Also got a bad cold - all us lightweight real northerners are dropping like flies. DougieB and Laura can 'represent'. Would have been good to meet you all and see the guys who made it on the Scotland mini-meet again.
Would've been a cheaper weekend too - getting new tyres tomorrow...
Enjoy

It's blowing up a gale here in Edinburgh, sounds like ideal weather to go out on the bike. I'll see you all there tonight.

Be there in a few hours - damp (but mild) and breezy on high ground in the west... and a full moon

Welcome to Tan Hill :-)
