Good to see all the old faces again. This time lots of new ones too. Really enjoyed the weekend. Will get some pics up here in the next day or two.
cheers
Chris
PS: to Fritz: I checked out the Green Dragon at Hardraw and the landlord seemed like a pleasant chap and was interested in welcoming us.

Hutch 16 Nov 2008 19:03

Just arrived back in an RAC van. Big thanks to everyone who helped with carting me and gear between barnard castle and tan hill. Thanks to everyone else for offering help and generally making it a good weekend. Was good chatting to some of you more experienced folk and getting some useful tips and idea.

Thanks again and maybe I'll see some of you folk in the future.

Hutch

I posted a ride report on xt225.com of the ride out on Saturday. Here's the link.
Doc Gets Dirty in the Dales: The Tan Hill Meet - XT225+250 Rider's Group

I'm sure I can speak for all of us, we had a great time in the Dales. Thanks to Dazzer and Mick.

COOL!!! We are a bit of the old classic movie fans too!!

As for the meet:

Thanks every one. It was of a bit of a scary ride up, then a interesting time trying to set up our tent in the heavy winds. A broken tent pole later we were sitting in the pub, beer in hand, some great conversation, and bunk house bed awaiting. Next day great all day breakfast. More great converstations, and with tail firmly between legs we took the long stunning views route to alt-berg got two more pairs of boot (one for me one for Mrs. X).home had a great ride. Then went home by the borring way home 1800h.
thanks again every one! see you next time.

late arrival

Even tho I arrived late on Sat night, It was great to meet so many like minded people. Good to try and put faces to names on the Hubb. Thank you to Steve [Huddersfield] for the little ride out Sun morn. I must get my lovely new V- Strom dirty and look forward to next meet February?....
Dear Santa ..........Iron Mule panniers please

Brilliant weekend, nothing like riding 4 hours in gale-force winds in the dark, then pitching the tent at 2am after a few pints, still in gale-force winds.

Do I get a prize for being the only one of the Edinburgh contingent to stick it out for the whole weekend and not break down in the process?!

Thanks to all for making it happen, and to my tent-pitching helpers!

Laura

You’re certainly due a prize for that. My bike was trailered to a friendly barn in Cumbria. I finally left Masham at about 6pm Sunday after failing to get the bike going, turned out to be a duff spark plug. It’s nearly new so I’m not happy about that. Still, it gives me an excuse to go back to those trails next weekend.

Big shouts out to:

Ian for being great moral support and giving me good advice which I didn’t take (I’ll listen next time and I’ll get rim-locks too);
Mick for taking us along great trails and then towing me along a trail faster than I’d been all day;
Basil and everyone on the off-road ride out for patiently waiting while my bike refused to start and not grumbling about having to cut the ride short;
Hutch for keeping me company in the breaking down stakes;
Laura for having good lights and agreeing to ride down with me on Friday night in the dark and wind;
And all the other great people who gave generous offers of help, had a great chat or rode mad bikes.

Next time I’ll have more spares…

Birdy 17 Nov 2008 19:34

A great couple of nights away, the Northern contingent make great hosts.

I will be getting a report up within the next couple of days, quite a lot of admin is preventing me from it at the mo, but will smack it on here soon.

Thanks to all who made it a good weekend.

A great couple of nights with a superb turnout, 10 out of 10 for Laura and Alex from Edinburgh for getting there in the dark with high winds on the moors, Nice to see many regular faces and lots of new faces at the meet. Thanks for the off road ride out organisers excellent day with good advice and nothing to daunting for the less experienced amongst us really enjoyable (Please add a link to any photos taken). Steve hope the bike has recovered from your many falls and hope your recovering from the aches and pains. Hope to see many of you again at the next northern meet Birdy good luck with your travels into Africa have a great journey but hope you make brighton on the right night and get a good send off -you deserve it.
Best wishes to everyone else Jake.

damnation I seem to have missed this. When's the next one?
Hi everyone by the way I'm new.
:D

Hutch 19 Nov 2008 20:55

After 3 long days at work I've finally managed to get home and pull my bike apart. Culprit seems to be an oil seal. The one which seals off the rod which pushes the clutch basket from the slave seal on the other side of the engine.

Basically a quick and easy job now I'm in a garage with tools and a kawasaki deal a mile away!!

Just thought I'd post an update for the curious folk amongst you.

Hi Hutch, glad that the job to fix the bike is an easy one for you, I am the bloke that was in the blue transit with the 2 dirtbikes.

Many thanks to Chris B for organising the event and to Basil, Dazzer,and Swiders and everyone else that made the event enjoyable :thumbup1:

To all of those that camped in the high winds on Saturday night .....respect, also being from London I don't get to see many sheep, ducks and chickens wandering around our local pubs!:eek3:
