5th Northern/1st South West Scotland Mini Meet

Hi All

You will notice the slight change in title, that's because we have been offered the most fabulous location to hold this mini meet, in the beautiful South West of Scotland, about 12 miles north west of Dumfries, it's not too far over the border. (I am a Scottish lass living in Northumberland and I actually live slightly further north than this location!)

Our hosts for the weekend will be Andy & Maya, some of you may have went to their talk at Ripley to hear about their sidecar trip in South America. The meet will be on the weekend of 27th/28th October - apologies to those who have already said they can't make that weekend.

They have plenty room for any number of people who would like to attend, just bring your tent as normal. Food will be provided over the weekend and the costs shared between those who attend. They are prepared to organise the drink (beer, lager) for Friday & Saturday night but we will need to know what your tipple is. If you would prefer to bring your own, that's ok just let us know.

There are plenty good roads and gravel trails in the vicinity for a ride out and the scenery is beautiful.

I hope that you can come along and that we might get a few of the Scottish brigade coming along.

If interested, please post and let us know so we have numbers.

Debz

Fritz 5 Sep 2007 13:51

Livotlout 10 Sep 2007 21:37

Yes please - can't wait.

Should arrive late Friday. Should be good to meet you all again, especially Andy and Maya, and Pete.
First thing , must get an MOT for the MZ (Zorst fallen off again!)

Best wishes - Alec

Brian E 11 Sep 2007 10:29

I will try and attend as that is my only free weekend next month.

Jake 19 Sep 2007 21:28

Debz hope you get a few more going up - I will be coming up maybe even with Helen but I doubt i will be doing any off-roading this time round. As for drinks I will bring my own. Is the camping in a field/farm/garden or what -are fires allowed etc. just so I know for cooking and moreso for keeping warm in the evenings more so if we are sitting outside at the end of october its can be chilly and damp up there. Jake.

alec if you want to break your run up your welcome to stay over at mine on thursday evening or on the way back if it helps you out. Jake.

MikeS 19 Sep 2007 21:36

Sounds good, count me in. I really need something to take my mind off the fact that I've only been home a week and somehow I'm going back to work tomorrow!!

Joe C90 19 Sep 2007 21:38

Hi all!
Would love to make it, but am having my knee re-strung this weekend at last. no driving etc for at least a month (time for servicing the fleet though), so have a good time!
cheers,
Andy.:scooter:

Debz 20 Sep 2007 07:46

Hi guys

Jake - it's at Andy & Maya's house and they have a pretty big garden for us to camp in but if required they have the use of the field next to the house. They have a campfire which will keep us all warm in the evening. In the event of dodgy weather, they are hoping to have a newly erected garage which can be used as shelter. Plan is to lay on food/cook for everyone, if folks are happy with that. It'll be good to see you both again.

MikeS - looking forward to hearing about your travels.

Andy - glad to hear you're getting your knee sorted. Iain still not been to see about his yet, we had hoped to be moved by now and he was waiting to register with docs but it has gone on + on....but moving next weekend (fingers crossed) so will get him to the docs then. Hope everything goes well for you.

Will post directions/GPS stuff nearer the time.

Debz

Joe C90 20 Sep 2007 13:57

hi,
if possible, get him referred by the doc to a specialist called Nic London at the yorkshire knee clinic. Knee Clinic UK, Knee Clinic Yorkshire, Private Knee Clinic UK: Yorkshire Knee Clinic UK
He does some NHS stuff, this is the guy doing my surgery and all the professionals rate him.
Any questions on all this, ask me, I have been doing my homework!!!

Be warned, the surgery has a long recovery time, and with delays in getting it organised, means a full year from doc to fixed.

mustaphapint 29 Sep 2007 23:39

Hi, We would like to come to this. Perhaps even both of us on bikes this time! Can't confirm yet but definitely interested.

Smccarth 6 Oct 2007 08:53

Debz 10 Oct 2007 07:48

Hi All

Is everyone that has said they are coming or shown interest happy to be cooked for (probably big pan of chilli or the like and brekkie stuff to) and share the costs? Or would you prefer to cook your own? Can you also advise re booze - will you bring your own or will we get a few slabs of beer in and share the costs? Can you let us know please.

Looking forward to seeing you all.

Cheers

Debz

SIMONP 10 Oct 2007 12:12

We will be there

Upon Fritz & Bevs recommendation, please count Gerry, Robert and Simon in for the weekend.

Chilli sounds great, happy to bring own booze though, i think

Simon.

Fritz 10 Oct 2007 14:39

Yes Please

Hi Debz.
Bev y Fritz for food - big Dutch apple pie pleeaaase Maya ;-)
Bev y Fritz for Beer (brown rather than yellow preferred for Fritz, Bev is Guiness drinker but we will drink either if push comes to shove, or we can bring in if easier? What ever is easiest for hosts)
Happy to assist if we can. Many thanks to all involved.

Brian E 11 Oct 2007 02:37

Sorry Debz i'm not going to able to make that weekend i've got to go Trail riding for the weekend.

Jake 11 Oct 2007 21:05

Debz - helen aint coming but I am, will be able to travel up during the day on Friday nioce scenic route along the border and over to Moffat then onto Dumfrieshire - are you and Iain going then or in the evening. Anyway I am up for food and ale please. All the best Jake.

Debz 12 Oct 2007 07:10

Hi Jake
I'll be going over during the day but Iain can't get the day off so he'll be following over a night. Do u fancy riding over together? Think I'm at work in the morning but finish at 12 on a Friday so could leave from Blyth then if that suits you? I'll give you a phone one night.

Debz

MikeS 12 Oct 2007 11:06

So am I the 'Token Scot' then!

Hope to make it, should be fine though I would prob come down Sat for one night. I'd also be up for chipping in for communal food too though most likely will bring my own booze.

Cheers

Debz 12 Oct 2007 12:52

Mike

I'm Scottish (but living in England) so you won't be alone! Had hoped that a few more of our country folks might have come along with it being in Scotland but never mind.

I'll post directions soon. See you on the Saturday

Debz

XRM 12 Oct 2007 13:49

I am hoping to come along arriving on the Friday. Is there anyone else going to be camping? I'm also happy to chip in for everything. I'll confirm next week.

Are there any nearby B&B - just in case!

Rob

Debz 12 Oct 2007 17:14

Hi Rob

We'll all be camping. Andy & Maya have a pretty big garden and if we need more space they can get the use of the big field behind them, so no worries.

Hopefully see you there.

Debz

SIMONP 16 Oct 2007 09:10

Debz 17 Oct 2007 07:27

Hiya

Does everyone that is having drink supplied (with us sharing the costs) by the hosts like beer, rather than lager?

Rob - 'there' is approx 12 miles north west of Dumfries, a mile or two from Dunscore. I will post proper directions in a couple of days and will also post the GPS reference.

Andy - glad to hear physio is going well, see you there. Are you happy to have food and beer provided and chip in with costs?

Debz

Joe C90 17 Oct 2007 09:56

Still trying to clear it with the missus, am getting serious grief:nono:

Will be extra nice to her tonight, if it goes well then joining in on the ale/food would be superb. Have got cabin fever and need to get out.

would be great to see you guys again.

XRM 17 Oct 2007 21:10

Debz

Re. beer / lager - not bothered one way or the other ...

Rob

Jake 17 Oct 2007 21:50

Debz, just give me a ring and i will travel up with you no problem. I would rather have beer but will also be bringing a bottle of Rum or something similar. Its good to see the numbers are rising. Colin from Bridlington (KTM) is also trying to come along will let us know this week. Jake.

Debz 18 Oct 2007 07:49

Hi all

Got menu/costs, I'm sure you'll agree, they are very reasonable (and having sampled Maya's cooking before I think it is well worth the money!)

Brekkies - Cooked with all the usual stuff

Friday Evening Meal: Chilli and Maya's apple pie for dessert

Saturday evening meal: Haggis, neeps & tatties OR Meatballs, neeps & tatties and cheesecake for dessert.

Costs: Brekkie - £2, evening meal - £3

Drink - Andy has secured a deal with the local brewery and there will be beer and lager available. Cost for drink is £1.60 per pint bottle.

Just got MOT, so should arrive Friday evening, please count me in for Beer and Food.

Many thanks

Alec

ps : Apple Pie - my favorite.

Debz 24 Oct 2007 07:55

Hi guys

Here goes with directions, its approx 12 miles north west of Dumfries:

Arrive at Dunscore village (this is on B729), when you get to village there is one mini roundabout, from the roundabout take the road past the church.

Go for 1.5 miles then turn right (signposted Corsock)

Travel 1 mile along this road (passing over the small crossroads, do not turn off). At 1 mile turn right onto a 'no through road' (no sign, the old school house is immediately after the turning). Continue for a further half mile and Andy & Maya are the second house on the right.

If you get lost, please phone Andy on 01387 820862

GPS ref: N 55 08.818, W 003 49.813

See you all there!

Debz

I'd like to say a big thank you to everyone at the mini meet especially Andy & Maya who made a stranger feel so welcome in their home.

Was good to 'go local' with some traditional Scottish fayre and ale. Though not too many.

Great people, good stories and a bit of weather to test the tent, fab!
