Lightbulb POI's for your GPS at Ripley

I will be at Ripley offering to upload POI's to your GPS (along with any other help with GPS or Mapsource or POI Loader that I can)

This is not a lecture and I will be available 'working' from my White Toyota Hilux (let's hope that there is only one there!) in the car park opposite the pub and courtyard - look for the 'A' board near it- This activity is not listed but has Grant's blessing.

The upload to your GPS of some POI data files (of your choosing- broken down by countries) is free in return for an appreciative donation to Horizons for site maintenance.

Note:
Garmin tells me that most motoring units such as the Nuvi, and Zumo's as well as most units with memory cards can make use of CUSTOM POI's using the upload interface POI Loader.
I can vouch for the 60 CSX and the 278C - you may want to check that your unit is compatible with Custom POi's beforehand.

The advantage of Custom POI's is that these do not take up your unit's POI space-
For example, my 278C can store 2000 POI's in the unit's POI memory- but any routes will nibble at that number-and reduce it substantially-
Custom POI's are not stored in the same area hence your unit's full POI memory capability remains available-
Testing my 278C, it froze somewhere between 326,000- and 328,000 custom POI's! I have left a little space and currently have uploaded 320,000 without any problems.
And the added bonus is that they weigh nothing!

See you at Ripley

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
