Travellers Meeting Brisbane, Australia

We are having a meeting for Travellers & the Brisbane HU Community this Sunday morning, 9am at McDonalds, Five Ways, Sandgate Rd, Albion. If you could be good enough to email me with numbers so I can ring and warn McDonalds how many people will be coming along.
Set aside the weekend of Sept 8-9th for a weekend away. I will have more detail for you all on Sunday morning.

Look forward to seeing everyone there.

Glen

Perfect!

Excellent!
The weekend away is perfectly timed for my birthday
and is great motivation to make me hurry up and head up from Sydney.
I'm in a 4x4 this time though... hope there's no 4WDism!
(I won't be able to make the Maccy D catch up, alas)

I look forward to more details on Sunday. Good work!

How many candles ????

Come on, share with us all how many candles we will need.
No discrimination here, I own a 4wd too, besides we need someone to cart all our gear!

I will post the details for the weekend away in this thread on Monday morning when I get back to work.

Enjoy the trip North

Glen

How many candles? Now that will be telling

... but because I'm rubbish at keeping secrets... 29 + 1 (*gasp*)

The weekend will be a great way to celebrate, yippee!

Here it is!

Brisbane HU Community weekend away
Saturday night 08/09/2007

Where
Hivesville Hotel
Main St
Hivesville
Eric & Denise Godsell
07 4168 9876
All bookings direct with Eric or Denise please

Hivesville is located about 28km north-west of Wondai in the South Burnett region. Follow the signs to Proston from Wondai. The Historic Hivesville Hotel is located in the heart of Hivesville, not far from Proston and Lake Boondoomba. The hotel offers lunch 7 days a week and dinner Monday to Saturday night, also a choice of single rooms within the hotel itself; or new double and single bedroom semi motel style accommodation. A communal kitchen and laundry has recently been built at the rear of the premises.

Distance
Via highways it is 280km or about 3.5 hour, but who ever travels to a destination on a main highway? If a little dirt is your style then I recommend diverting off the black top via the Kilcoy Jimna Murgon Rd.
I hope to make a long weekend of it and head to another overnight pub stay on the Friday night

Option 1
$40.00 per head per night includes
Rooms vary from donga huts to hotel rooms.
Mixed roast dinner
Bed
Cooked breakfast of sausages, hash browns, bacon, eggs, toast, tomatoes & limited orange juice

Option 2
$25.00 per head per night
Camping under shelter cover or in the pub carpark
Mixed roast dinner
Cooked breakfast of sausages, hash browns, bacon, eggs, toast, tomatoes & limited orange juice

Included in both options is a contribution of $20.00 from Eric & Denise for juke box use. Of course there is the option to add to this ourselves at any time.

Alcohol costs remain the same as usual at
· $2.60 for light & gold pots
· $2.70 for heavy pots
· $6.00 per can for rum etc

· Rooms availability is limited so it’s a first in first served basis.
· Camping availability is limitless

I look forward to seeing the people who attended the Iluka weekend and meeting some more new faces

One single "Donga" booked. See you there(if not before) with a bike loaded up for intercontinental travel. I'm doing a few test runs before deciding what gear to settle on and this is one of them.

I was thinking about heading via Esk then up the Range to Hampton and Crow's Nest - across the Bluff Rd to Kilcoy then through Jimna and on to Hivesville. Distance = ????(Who cares?). The weather's not looking too flash for a Friday departure at this stage( I've just washed my bike too!!)

How lucky are we?????

It turns out that this weekend is also the Kingaroy Peanut Festival, might be worth a look on the way through. Kingaroy Peanut Festival

I have entered Ken in this event

Bust Ya Nuts!

The 2007 PCA Peanut Festival will be celebrating Kingaroy’s peanut heritage in a comical way showing off the strength and resilience of the local community. We are challenging the rest of Australia to test their strength in the family friendly Qld Strong Man Games.

The feature event of the Qld Strong Man Games will be the Guinness World Record Setting “Peanut Thresher Pull”.

There will also be three levels of other games for men, women and children:
• “Little Peanut Games”, sponsored by the Little Peanuts Early Learning Centre
• The Mission Australia Junior Qld Strong Man Games for primary school children, and
• The open Qld Strong Man Games for upper teens and adults.

Teams and individuals from all over Queensland and Australia are being encouraged to trek to Kingaroy to try out for the “Tuff Nutt” Awards.

Weather forcast for Friday and Saturday is for a few showers. Lets hope there is a dry line on the road.

See you all there

We had some fun!!

Despite Kangaroo's & Goanna's with bad road sense & sliding off the side of a muddy dirt road, we survived.

Ken may not have competed in the "Bust Ya Nuts" competition with the locals but he certainly took the gong for the most Gin & Tonics for the night.
On Sunday morning there were a few sets of eyes that resembled road maps and you could have sold Panadol for a small fortune. Even the birthday girl Michelle/Kate seemed to enjoy the Aussie initiation ceromony.

Our hosts Eric, Denise & Lisa owners of the Hivesville Hotel looked after us with fantastic food and icy cold drinks. We even had undercover bike parking. I would recommend this venue to anyone.
Pics to come later

'Til next time

No Proof!

Pictures!! Oh god.

Thank you all so much for a wicked gathering (even the initiation part - was it the pole? - was fun!). And mudcake... mmmmm

I am glad I missed out on the 'sliding off the side of a muddy dirt road' and roos, negotiating my own slippery sludge en route. My 4bee had to at least be dirty when I arrived LOL Mission accomplished.

I'll hopefully see some of you on the road if not for a few Baileys.

Kate
