December 26 Update

RECENT UPDATES

Latest info of itinerary at Riders Corner :

The first Saturday night, January 10, presentation has been confirmed. Presenter Serdar (Sunny) Unal, a multinational and multilingual wanderer, will take attendees on a photographic expedition of his 700 day, solo motorcycle adventure from Los Angeles, California through Latin and South America to Buenos Aires, Argentina during which he faced violence, attempts at fleecing by corrupt officials and expats and daily road carnage. It was a wild adventure, one equal to and above any faced by well protected teams of travelers.

Additionally:

"We have been advised that the globally prominent adventure motorcycle outfitters, The Touratech Company, will be present.

Also received confirmation that Metal Mule, Heidenau Tires and Scottoiler to attend January, 2015 Thailand Horizons Unlimited Meeting through their Bangkok, Thailand importer."

Advice: Call Rider's Corner to reserve BBQ at both Rider's Corner in Chiang Mai and Tony's Place in Nan.

According to insiders on the rideasia.net forum, room reservations also are highly recommended for guest house or hotel in Nan near Tony's Place. Estimated 20-30 travelers and adventurers to be there for the Ride Out January 11...about a 4-5 hour ride. Query rideasia posters on recommendations.

NOT Huge: 50-100

The event is not huge, 50-100 attend. Check link in the first post above for a link for detailed report on the 2014 event.

Agenda for 2015 is there also.

"Ride out" is Sunday, from Chiang Mai to Nan, where those making the journey will spend the evening at Tony's Place, an affiliate of The Rider's Corner and well known restaurant/watering hole for motorcycle travelers passing through the Nan area.

Saturday Afternoon

At The Rider's Corner, 2:00 PM, there will be a group photo, after which people usually explore Chaing Mai or hang sound Rider's Corner tire kicking, trading tall tales, using the free wifi or garnering information from other travelers about SE Asia. No other "scheduled" events until the BBQ that evening.

Rally only means attending the events Friday, Saturday and possibly Sunday set forth in the Schedule above. No other events are slated.

Wild First Night

The Welcome Evening, Friday night, at Rider's Corner, the Golden Triangle rider's motorcyclist and overlander traveler base camp in Chiang Mai, January 9, was a surprise. Cold rain could not dampen the party as travelers and adventurers from around the world convened and traded tales late into the night. A report is here thanks to event hosts:

China, South America, Myanmar, Africa

The official "HU Mini-Meeting" at the Rider's Corner was over flowing. Whether it was the "best BBQ" in Chiang Mai, the camaraderie of fellow travelers in the Golden Triangle or the travel tales that brought in the crowd, it was a "filled to the doors" evening at the Rider's Corner.

Photographs and some narrative can be found here:
Horizons Unlimited Chiang Mai meeting 2015. 9th, 10th & 11th January 2015

Sunday will find 20-30 HU travelers doing a ride out to Nan, about 4-6 hours east of Chiang Mai, to "chill and swill" for the evening at Tony's Place in Nan, widely known as a motorcycle friendly restaurant.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
