What's the possibility to make a Horizons Unlimited Meeting on Brazil?
How can we arrange this?

Pantanal (you may say that it is like a very great swamp, but much more than this, there is life everywhere there) is one of the best places to visit and explore in Brasil. Is unique in the world. I never have been there. And I want to know it while it exist.
Good idea, Marcio.
When is the dry season there?? or would be better between floods?

Hi guys!
Thanks Grant for sending me this thread.
I live in Brazil now, since July. We are located in Rio and I was also thinking about the possibility of organising a meeting in Brazil. although for now I am not sure where.
Rio is expensive and I do not know well the state yet.
Ideal location should have camping grounds.

Any suggestions? Dates? Location? I am definitely up to do something but I will need local help (and local knowledge!)...

We are still bikeless but we hope to be able to buy bikes in the next few months. Our permanent visas are being sorted and our container (with ALL our Mc gear!) should get on its way soon... but even bikeless I am keen to get something on the way for a HU Brazil meet!
Let's discuss!

cheers,

Thumbs up

Thanks Maria, and everyone - Maria has been to the big UK Meeting, so knows what it's all about and a bit of how it works, so that will be a big help. And you can see her and Alistair on the DVD series too!

Every Meeting, and every country, is unique as every country has slightly different ways of doing things generally, but we feel that the basic overall "style" and "feeling" of an HU Meeting is important and must be maintained - or it's a different "thing".

Also important, we have two DIFFERENT "Meetings".

MINI-Meetings are small events, often "starter" or "practice" events. They are simple to hold, nothing complicated, free of charge, and basically just a get-together of travel minded people, often in someones backyard, or in a pub or restaurant. Someone has to set a date and location, but that's about it. It's nice if someone wants to show a few slides from a trip or something, but not required. They're usually only an evening or at most one night.

FULL Meetings are a lot bigger deal - a good venue with camping, food service, two days minimum, presentation room(s), hotels nearby for those who don't want to camp, three or four organizers minimum, with one or two lead organizers to coordinate it all. We set up a Meeting registration and information page, promote the event internationally, help get presenters, and share in the profits from the event. These events help to pay our expenses to run the website, and are a very important part of our income.

We would like to attend all full Meetings, but it's just too expensive to come to all, especially South America, Australia and Thailand. Perhaps in a few years we could put together a string of southern hemisphere Meetings and come to all of them! In the meantime, we're happy to help get all of you inspired and informed so you can travel too!

There's lots more detail on the How to Host a Travellers Meeting | Horizons Unlimited page.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
