From Albuquerque to Creel
 

I am highly considering at make the meet at Creel. I live In Albuquerque, New Mexico and will be using my DR650. Anyone attending from this part of the woods, I could possibly hook up with?

I might be heading down through your neck of the woods. What route do you plan taking?

Interested in meeting in El Paso for the ride down? I'm trying to find some people from the east coast or south to go with, but being 4 months away it might still be early.

Also looking to see if anyone is interested in sharing one of the cabins in creel, doesn't seem like there's a lot of hotels down there.

Creel is Spanish for Hotel. :)
There are many hotels in Creel. No problemo.

The best border crossing for you would be Presidio/OJ. That puts you 320 miles (one day) from Creel. The 3 Palms Motel in Presidio will let you leave a truck/trailer.

As the event gets closer you'll see more activity over on ADVrider as people start spouting off their plans, and Presidio/OJ is always a popular crossing with people east of the Pecos.

I hope no one takes this the wrong way. Guide books, in general, suck. A "great guide book" is an oxymoron- though I believe some point out important sites/places to see. The successful ones simply draw tourists like moths to a flame. Folks that sell guide books often like to play on peoples fears. We've all heard riders express fear about riding alone in South America, Africa, etc. Fear of the "unknown" has people joining groups, buying books and visiting websites. If you're heading south of the US border, you don't need a guide. There are loads of places to stay. You'll do better staying in some small or new place as yet undiscovered by the guide books. Head south and and have fun, let the experts enjoy living WAY north. BAKKER, please go sell your guide elsewhere. For those interested, there is a page on the HUBB called "bike friendly accommodation," or something similar- use it. Post good/bad info as you see fit. If you want to sell things on HU, do the right thing and pay HU first. Am I the only one growing tired of people selling on this website? This morning I found 4 adverts from someone selling TV's and cell phones...

Hook, , your point is taken, however there is no need for you to have sent me such a beligerant and insulting pm as you did. You could have pointed out politely that there was an area in the HUBB introduction pages which explained the availability of some inexpensive advertising options , as I read them now, and I will follow up on that . In my nearly two years dealing with posts on the HUBB I had never taken the trouble to read that material as I felt it didn't concern me , not having anything to sell untill very recently. If Grant feels that I have unfairly taken advantage of the HUBB , my apologies. I thought I was only passing along information similar to as was to be read in many other postings which offered used bikes, clothing and some other items for sale to any interested party.
I never claim that my little attempt at a guide to economical hotels is indispensable, or that it is "great" ( Hook's word) , just that it might be of interest and useful to the infrequent or first - time visitor who is unfamiliar with the culture and the language and has worries about finding any rooms in places he has never been.
From the tone of this recent pair of pm's and another nasty one from you , Hook, many months ago on a totally unrelated topic I must surmise that you have some anger management issues .Perhaps they are the results of days of frustrating dealings with annoying middle-eastern bureaucratic bunglings of border officals in your current world tour. Please don't take your frustrations out on me .In your second pm today you used the terms "...in all honesty..." and "...in fairness to you"... as if they were equivalent, and so they are , but the absence of one precludes the other.Your pm s were neither.

Bakker has visited some weird (good) places, lots of them way off the regular tourist trail.
I'm too lazy to catalog and record all the good and bad places I've stayed. $15 ain't squat, and might even be recovered the first time you roll into an unknown town after dark.
Guide books and maps can go hand-in-hand, and they do provide a small comfort level, IMO. Nothing is perfect...hence it's an adventure.
