Canada West HU Travelers Meeting August 6-9 2010

The Eighth Annual Canada West HU Travellers Meeting will be held in Nakusp, BC, August 6-9, 2009

Registration is open here

Ekke and Audrey Kok have put a lot of work into organising a location, food and all the rest of it, and it's going to be fantastic! A great chance to get in some new and exciting rides in the surrounding mountains. This is seriously some of the best :scooter: country in the world! You'll love it! :mchappy:

We have quite a few great presentations lined up already, but if you'd like to put on a presentation for us, whether it's about your trip, or any technical subject that would be of interest, please let me know here. We're always looking for new subjects and presentations, and we'd love to have you! :)

I look forward to seeing you there!

Grant

I'm hoping to ride yup and attend this event. Depends on work deadlines
and which bike I bring.

Debating whether to ride up on my DRZ400 or Speed Triple. The Triumph
probably needs a service first and the DRZ has Avon Distanzias, not
knobbies.

Thanks, Don

Ekke 13 Jul 2009 04:16

Hi Don,

I don't the think the ride outs will be super technical so the DRZ on Distanzias should be fine. The Speed Triple would be fantastic on the pavement though. Tough choice!

Schedule?

Is there a plan for what day/time various topics (e.g., trailside or flat repair) will be covered?

Watching the Achievable Dream volume 1 in the evening these days...:scooter:

Ekke 15 Jul 2009 03:48

No finalised agenda yet Don but typically we've run Thursday evenings pretty informally (maybe a movie or just talk) then Friday a ride out and a tech session in the afternoon with slideshows that evening. Saturday would again have a ride out and tech sessions in the afternoon and slideshows in the evening.

Thanks to all the hard work and long hours put in by the volunteer organizers, the H.U. meeting went off without a hitch. Good venue, perfect weather (yes, I'm crediting Ekke with that) and lots of great people. I'm already looking forward to the next meeting.

Big thanks to Ekke & Audrey, all the volunteers and presenters. It was an awesome weekend. :thumbup1:

I'm sure someone is going to gripe about the heat in the senior's centre. Next time I suggest lighting a small smokey fire on the roof, call the Wildfire Hotline, and have a waterbomber drop a load on the center. Instant coolness.

My only real gripe was that there wasn't enough diet pop in the fridge.

Looking forward to next year. :funmeteryes:

Thank you to Ekke, Audrey, Andy and all the organizers, volunteers and presenters, it was a great weekend. Both Sandra and I had a lot of fun and enjoyed the riding and the presentations. Of course the best part of the weekend was meeting and reconnecting with a lot of great people.

Cheers,

Jordan and Sandra.

Also a big thanks to Ekke and Audrey and all the other who put on this great weekend. I picked up some fabulous tips and ideas from not only the presenters but everyone. I can't wait for the next meeting.

It can't be stated enough so, Many thanks to the organizers, volunteers and speakers for creating a teriffic weekend.

Me and my "dirtbike" got to some fantastic locations on logging roads in the surrounding mountains. Next year my travel bike engine rebuild will be complete and I'll be able to join others on the organized rideouts.

The meeting went well into the night on Sunday as a diehard few gathered around a picnic table and refused to let the stories/wine/candlelight die out.

Safe travels and long rides to everyone!

This was by far the best stop I made on my entire trip. (This is the kid on the red cbr 125 if anybody remembers!). While on the ferry heading towards Kaslo, some riders told me of this meeting which seemed right up my alley. And sure enough, it was! Even though I had never associated with this group before, I was immediately accepted (and not criticized)! Well done guys! I will definately keep in touch.

Ditto

A HU meeting, to me, is all about the people you meet. When I try to describe it friends or riding companions I like to say it is not a “biker rally” but a rally for “travelers who ride bikes”. It is the only place where when you tell someone that you want to ride a 20 year old 250cc motorcycle to Central America they will not think you are crazy they will just share ideas of where to stay and what to see.

To echo the other posters comments and big thank you to Ekke and Audrey for organizing and running the event! It is much appreciated !

And yes Dan on the 125 we remember you and cant wait to see you next year and hear of some more great adventures
