Canada West 2011, TENTH ANNIVERSARY HU Travellers Meeting August 25-28 Open Now!

Canada West, Nakusp, BC. August 25-28.

Full details and Registration open now!

Susan and I will both be there - it's the TENTH ANNIVERSARY of HU Travellers Meetings in Canada, and we'd like to make it amazing! So please pass the word to your friends and get them out of their rut and on the road :)

If you haven't been to Nakusp, you owe it to yourself to go - the scenery is spectacular, the roads are stunning, (you WILL see wild animals from the road) and I can guarantee a great time! :mchappy:

We are also now accepting applications from presenters for putting on a show, it can be on any bike related travelling topic. Last year we had our most diverse range of topics ever, with some fantastic shows and knowledgeable talks. To help planning the event we need your application forms in early please!
Over the weekend we had around 21 presenters putting on 26 shows! Check out the range of topics here.

For some more ideas on what YOU COULD present, see the UK Meeting.

We are also looking for volunteers as usual! We had an excellent crew last year doing a range of activities. It takes help from volunteers to put on the meeting and this year we'll need a few more. When you register for the event you'll have an opportunity to volunteer, and we'd greatly appreciate it if you'd help out for just a few hours. It's a GREAT way to meet people too!
We look forward to seeing you there! :mchappy:

It was a great time last year, Joyce & I will be back this year and perhaps we can convince Adrienne to do a presentation of her South America trip - if she can avoid smashing her ankle in the mountains this time!

Daniel has signed us up already! We are really looking forward to it. I am a physician so would be happy to volunteer for medical/first aid or any non medical job as needed. Sara Pedersen

It should be great time!

I believe Grant and Susan are checking out the arena since we've outgrown the Seniors' Centre and the Legion Hall.

Back again!

I plan to be there again this year.

Hey, Adrienne, are you coming?

We're all bringing tensor bandage wraps to take care of you if you're back from South America by then. I could also bring Tequila (just for medicinal purposes) if required.

Anyone coming that's riding a R1200 RT.........why?......I think I want one :helpsmilie:!

I hope to be there again this year after my ride to the Arctic.

Sara where were you last year with the medical care? On the Thursday in Enderby I fell off my boat a cracked 2 ribs so I was 1 day late in coming!
Sleeping in the tent was a bit of a challenge for those 2 nights!!

Of course I'll be there!!!

As I write this I am about 600kms from Ushuaia after heaps of spills, thrills and chills on my trip through South America. Absolutely no promises about a) not dropping my bike or b) not dropping it on me or c) not drinking all your whiskey! But dude... have I got some tales to tell now.

See you back in Canada....
Adrienne

Route suggestions California to Nakusp?

Okay, I'm going to Nakusp again this year but rather than head straight there we're thinking of leaving early from Vancouver and riding down to Northern California via the Pacific Coast Highway........can anybody suggest a scenic route for the leg back up to Nakusp. So much to see in Oregon and Washington and we'd like to stay off the Interstates.

I believe there were a few riders from California who came to Nakusp last year. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Hi all
Planning on making the meeting and wanted to check to see if you wanted a presentation on "Bumbling (and sloshing) around Australia".
Wife and I road for seven weeks in November and December then I returned with my son Ryan for Three weeks in April. Just making the offer, let me know if you think it will fit in the program.

Route north from Cal.
head toward Bend Or. then toward the Columbia gorge (lots of good rides in this area) ride west along the river (I prefer the the WA side, but some good rides if you find the old road on the OR side).
Somewhere about Carson you can get on a route (hwy 30 then 25) up by Mt. St Helans coming out on Hwy 12 at Randle (at this point you can head west to my place where we always have room for campers, sometime even a bed or) go East over White Pass, at Naches find "old Naches Hwy" and wander into Selah find hwy 823 (Canyon route is the old Yakima to Ellensburg) from there head north to hwy 2 to Wenatchee, north on 97A, if you have time jog over to Twisp then back to 97 then north to Osoyoos Canada.

Well that is sort of how I would do it. If your timing matches our we could ride north together from here (Onalaska, WA). Also some great rides up around Mt. Rainier if you have the time.

Bob

Really loving the Achievable Dream disks and the thought of attending a HU gathering on thew ay home from a planned ride up to Banff this year is VERY appealing.

Debating whether it would make more sense to find some sort of tail rack for carrying a tent & sleeping bag fitted to my Speed Triple or my DRZ400...

Hope I end up meeting some of you fine folks, this Summer!

3 Week Trip Ending in Nakusp

My wife and I are planning to end a 3 week trip in Nakusp at the meeting, after leaving Calgary, going through Northern Montana to Mt St. Helens, and on up the coast eventually to Victoria and then west.

While not as epic as some trips, it'll be our longest trip since our Calgary-Montreal trip in 2008.

Looking forward to seeing folks in Nakusp!

Ian
