HUMM 2010 Pyrenees

1 Attachment(s)
I would like to extend a Huuuuge Thank You again to Grant and Susan for yet another well organised HUMM. Less teams than last year (when I tried for the first time, some may remember me from the big blisters and the slight limping).

This year went a lot better, our team, Team Furieux 00, even got third place !!!
We were lucky to have a team-member with great map reading skills.

We're aiming for 1st place next year obviously. This will mean for me at least to get some courses in the Ardennes I think. I need to get my confidence back. Had a bit of an accident last year, which had a bit of an effect this year.

All in all it has been a good one this year and hopefully there will be more teams next year.

See you then !!!

Well done Spete on the trophy.

I really enjoyed the event this year and I'm already looking forward to next year. I going to write a full ride report which I'll post on my website and link here (hopefully tomorrow).

Really enjoyed meeting everyone, the HUMM seems to attract such a diverse bunch of off roaders, it's so nice to see that there are still riders out there getting a lot of fun out of riding off road without having the latest enduro bike - not to mention riding a very long way to take part (Denmark, Ireland etc.)

The Long way home

Great event report Charles and great pictures Sarah and Steven.

Thanks a lot for 3 great days in the Pyrenees. It was great fun. Hope you all made it home well.

Lars and I stayed in La Molina 2 more days. Since Lars injured his back, he stayed home Friday and rested, while I took off with the Irish Mountain King Gerry for another off road experience.

We managed to find our way over Coll de Pall to Baga and it was just great. There'll be footage on Youtube later. We did a lot of Kodak Moment stops and just enjoyed the view and tried to stay out off the way of the Livestock.

Saturday Gerry stayed and helped me switch back to road tyres. (no pintches this time thanks to Gerry's vintage Dunlop tyre levers!) and then he took off for new adventures - and apparently he meet up with more hard riding ladies!

Lars and stayed in HG La Molina another day and headed back North Sunday morning. We decided to take the loooong way back through the French, Italian and Austrian part of the alps. Did a detour to the Verdon Gorge (Highly recommendable), further to Barolo in Piemonte. From there to the Stelvio pass in the Dolomites. Absolutely phenomenal, however a bit chilli in 2 degrees celcius and snow.

Later up through Bavaria, where we were met with full day rain + full day queue on the German Autobahn. We had rainsuits, warm clothes, heated handles and still we were cold and felt sorry for ourselves, untill we met a couple in leather suits, no rain gear, no heated handles, completely soaked with purple hands. Ush! Don't know how they did it.

Halfway through Germany the BMW got hot and made funny sounds and a bit north of Kassel in the middle of yet another queue she couldnt take it no more. Guess she wanted to stay in her home country. And so she did. Thanks to expensive insurance, I got a rental car home (music, cup holder, air condition... what a walk in the park). Lars continued on the Honda and we arrived home late last night. BMW will hopefully be fixed by very cheap and very efficient German BMW expert and arrive in a few days (pleeease!)

Take care everybody.

Hugs from Henriette

Team "X Rated"

Our trip went something like this:

Friday- Overnight on the ferry to Roscoff, sleeping on the floor in the cinema

Saturday - Blast down beyond Bordeaux, wild camp in the woods

Sunday - Find a 17mm spanner to remove Nick's front sprocket. It was on back to front causing the chain to munch the alloy rear sprocket.http://www.ukgser.com/forums/images/smilies/eek.gif Once that was sorted it was back on the road to Llavorsi (base for HUMM 2008 and possibly 2011). We were warned that there was a fiesta on and we would be kept awake all night so headed up for a wild camp in the hills. Then I remembered it was my wedding anniversary http://www.ukgser.com/forums/images/smilies/doh.gif so it was on to Andorra to get a phone signal. We ended up camping next to a bunch of Ozzies and kiwis on a van tour http://www.ukgser.com/forums/images/...s/beerchug.gifhttp://www.ukgser.com/forums/images/...new/jeiger.gifhttp://www.ukgser.com/forums/images/smilies/beer.gif

Monday - More riding in the mountains then a road blat across to La Molina for HUMM 2010.

Tues, Wed, Thu - the HUMM. Well done to all who took part.

Fri - 6 of us leapfrogged up the motorway to Route 66, a bikers hotel near Limoges. I won't try to describe Route 66, a unique place that just has to be experienced.

Sat - up to Roscoff for the ferry, this time with a cabin.

Sun - I go 20 miles home, Nick has another 300 to go.

Final count - 1950 miles (600 more for Nick), a few sore heads, 4 toasted tyres, 3 mirrors, 2 sore arses (but watching Nick squirm on his seat in my mirror I think my £12 sheepskin proved equal to his airhawk http://www.ukgser.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif ), 1 bottle of 12 yr old malt.

Big thank you's to Grant and Susan for running the event so smoothly (also Austin and Lois for putting the course together).

Thanks also to: Sara for filling my Scotoiler and the use of her Cramp Buster, Nick and Rachel for the lift back to the campsite in the van to avoid the rain, Stephen for the front TKC and not forgetting Hans for helping me finish the whisky so I didn't have to take the bottle back home :wink3:

Hope to see you all again sometime.

Iain

Wow, all your journeys made mine and Ashleys appear very tame. Apart from the need to nurse a split radiator hose all the way home (on Ashleys KTM), and for some bizarre reason the opportunity provided to us by a Gendarme to drive through the aftermath of a nasty accident whilst everyone else was being filtered off the motorway - we had a quiet trip back.

The "spy-cam" film has got some interesting stuff on it, which is now with Ashley - so I expect he will be Youtube'ing it up sometime in the near future. Unfortunately the "cleavage cam" didn't work too well.
