Hi there,

I'll sign up as soon as my holiday is approved.
I have a question though: is anyone coming who is able and willling to show me how to adjust the valves of a KTM LC4 engine? So far I have been neglecting this (or had somebody else do it for me), but it is one thing I really should be able to do myself...

Best
Peer

If you bring the appropriate tools at least measuring the clearances shouldn't be too hard. I think all of the KTMs have shims so you would need them as well, and you can only order them if you do know which ones you need, i.e. after measuring the clearances...

(somebody correct me if I'm mistaken here)

No shims as far as I know. I know more or less how to do it in theory, but I think it would be better to learn it from someone with KTM experience, LC4s can be a bit delicate. Also, it may be different from other engines, I don't know. KTM have managed to make the oil change fairly complicated with two filters, three points where the old oil comes out, two where the new oil goes in and a step of removing air from the frame, so the valve adjustment may be similarly intricate...

Hi guys,

I would also be very interested in some kind of good advice to get a deeper knowledge about the very special things of our orange divas (ok, some are green ;-).
Somebody else interested? If we can find some more participants and maybe a willing presenter it would be nice to have a little „KTM Tech Workshop“ (I presume the “beemer fraction” didn’t need some :biggrin3:)

@Jens:
Surely this is a little bit too short dated to get a proper KTM seminar for the weekend, but maybe this could be an inspiration for the autumn meeting ?!?*zaunpfahlwink*

CU on Friday

well I'm on it, why not doing a improvise quick tech-knowledge workshop, if there is any demand for it and there is a hand full of "divas" around, I could give some tech, service and conversion tips...

Will ask Jens to pin a note around the camp, there would be plenty of time to do a small "KTM seminar gathering" this weekend, if there is some interest in doing so, why not :welcome:
by the way... not all LC4 are orange or green... watch out for a plain black one on the camp ground if you got some individual questions... that's my beast...

by the way, I have all the parts+manual books, chassis and engines in form of PDF files with me on a USB stick to share covering all LC4 from 1996 to 2007...

spooky 28 Jun 2010 10:40

well just to mention it...

regarding the evening Quiz... remember to bring some nifty little donations... yea well in form of "small junk"... you know the stuff you ones bought and never used for your big trip, may some one else can use it, at least we will have some Quiz fun again, throwing this "valuable kit" at the one who got the right answers first...

see you all again in a few days time... gona be fun again... :D

... I have the same for the 690 Enduro and SuMos and I'm known to leave CDs and USB Sticks unattended when drunk...

For whatever reasons local beer works best...

Uuups, did I missed the iPhone app which reads the CAN-bus for troubleshooting??:eek3:

To be serious: many thanks to Spooky for his offer! You are more then welcome to give some "ad-hoc" classes for (actually us 2) LC4 riders at the meeting
How can we support you, which tools are helpful/needed (except of a cellphone :devil2:)??

Cheers
Jörn

Sirakor 28 Jun 2010 23:16

I can do a little demonstration of how to adjust valve lash on the LC4. I'll bring the tools etc, but will need someone elses bike (Peer I guess). A KTM manual bazar sounds like a good idea too.

Now all we need is Jens to stop faffing about with the shower and instead make sure we get to watch the Germany game on a big screen ...

:D

you are all very welcome... let's see what we can do. :thumbup1:

about tools ?
not much needed at all, got all the tools with me on the bike to show you, in case you want to take a selection of your own tools... well just take the most common sizes of spanners and a few alen keys (hex or Imbus), basically a bit more of the stuff you can find in the original KTM tool pack.
well yea support wise a beer would be nice... :D
