HU Greece 2012 Travellers Meeting, July 26-29

Welcome to the 1st Horizons Unlimited travellers meeting in Greece!

Please have a look at the meeting's Registration page where a great effort has been made to cover as much possible information, aspects or other enquiries.

Should you by chance have a question not clearly answered at the meeting's page, please feel free to contact for further clarification.

The same goes with any other kind of information that you may need in respect of travelling to and from the meeting, suggested places that you may combine with it or just seeking information on the Greek context.

We are very much looking forward to seeing you at the meeting this year.

Until then, have pleasant and, above all, safe rides.

Dimitris

If you go there take the "old" highway, its absolutely FUNtastic! The new one is good because all the trucks go this way now and the old road has some stunning views.

Indeed, Bertrand, access to the meeting via Metsovo-Haliki-Kalarrytes-Pramanta is the best route for those coming along Egnatia road from the east, in both distance and scenicness. The problem is that most GPS's do not have it because although most of it is paved, there is still part of it that remains dirt road.

In general, many roads in the area, even if they charterred, become damaged over the winter and the one proposed on the meeting's announcement page is the one that remains open throughout the year.

By the way, the meeting's page is now live!

Now there's an idea !!!! We are going to the German hubb meeting and from there down around the Balkans.
Never ever been to Greece, so this could be a good opportunity to pay a visit to your wonderfull country .
Keep us informed , how many places will there be ?
Sounds good sitting in the sun, good wine and food and talking to like minded souls, nothing is better than that !!!

Hi there, Bushman,

The location is Tzoumerka Mountain in NW Greece, so good you didn't mention, along with the sun (yes, there will be) the wine (yes, there will be), the deep blue warm sea (no, there won't be, unless you ride for 3 hours...).

Instead, the closest to that is crystal clear waters from freshly melting snow, but then when it's 40 degrees centigrade outside it makes it such a challenge!

Hope to see you there and have a nice, and above all, safe ride down Europe.

Dear Bertrand,

What I meant is that on the one hand there is a very widespread network of dirtroads that most GPSs don't have at all and, on the other hand, some of the roads that GPSs do have, even further show some of them as paved roads, they may be totally impassable because of the severe winter.

Even those routes that we have suggested on the meeting's announcement to be proposed ride-outs, we will be checking a few days before because, as expected, we wouldn't had chosen the ordinary roads that link villages, but those who are best passable, though without lacking any scenicness.

Of course, for hard core offroaders, we already have in mind a few to suggest but they may very well have not been riden or driven in years and, further to this, in a most unfortunate occasion help might be difficult to get there, let alone organise a numerous convoy. Come and we'll sort it out.

καλημέρα,

δεν χρειάζεται λογαριασμός και για τον συνεπιβάτη, απλά συμπληρώνεις την φόρμα για τον καθένα ξεχωριστά..

Hi there, Bertrand. How's the bike restoration going? Did you manage to fix the worn threads? "Kleftiko" has indeed become rare mostly because it needs hours to cook, in contrast to barbeque, and tavernas prefer nowadays to provide quickly made food. I'll ask in the village if anyone makes it now and then and I'll let you know, I myself haven't had it in years and have missed it!

Prodigy was just asking where on the registration form to put the name of his fellow passenger and Gallos informed him that everyone registers separately.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
