Smile HU Queensland 2014 Meeting moved to Beaudesert, 3-6 Oct, 2014

We have some great news! The excitement of being on the road with adventure travel is growing by leaps and bounds, and we have busted out of the seams of our venue at Dayboro. It's time to move on to bigger and better. We've listened to your feedback, and the organizing team has spent a lot of time looking at possible venues.

We're pleased to announce that our 2014 venue is the Beaudesert Show Grounds. Shane Kuhl and Helen Black are the local hosts for this event, ably assisted by Scott & Sarah McMurtrie, Carien & Derek Swale, John Harpour, Karen Lewis, Anthony Holzwart, Stuart Bradley and Marcos Linhares.

All of us are thrilled to have more presentation rooms so we can run two streams of talks at once, lots of camping space with choice of shade if desired and more powered sites, and last but certainly not least, more toilets and showers! The local community is a bit larger, but just as welcoming, and there are motels, restaurants and shops within a short walking distance. Very importantly, the area boasts more on-road and off-road riding, like Queensland Moto Park, the Border Ranges and Lamington National Park.

The 2014 theme is "The Achievable Dreams". We will still have keynote speakers who have done amazing trips but we also want to shine a spotlight on smaller, more achievable trips for the average joe - trips that can be done during your annual leave or long service leave as well as amazing places to see in Australia.

It's the closeness of our ever-growing adventure community that makes Horizons Unlimited what it is today, so please mark your calendars for 3-6 October, 2014. Note the later date! Registration is now open with early bird rates until 31 January.

We'll be there, and hope to see you there!

Found some photos of the Beaudesert Show grounds:

Camping area down towards sheds. You can see the white and orange power poles and we also are working towards having some quickshades dotted throughout to create shady rest areas.

Hi Joe,

Yes, should be a great event at Beaudesert. We also scored a small write-up in Australian Road Rider. If you click on the image, a new page with a larger image should open up.

The (Really) early bird gets the discount!

Just a reminder to everyone thinking about coming to the Horizons Unlimited meeting in Beaudesert. The 'really early bird' discount pricing ends on 31 January 2014, so if you want to save a few dollars, log on and register (and pay!)

Just registered and paid.
This will be my first one, and then I will be on the road straight after it, going around Australia... Feel a bit nervous about the whole thing, but I'm sure it will all fall into place.

Safe riding

Hi Alex and welcome,

I'm sure you will enjoy Beaudesert and if you are heading off from there, have a look at the other events we are holding in Cavendish Victoria, WA, and another one is in the planning stages in NSW. You'll find that not all your questions will be answered at one meeting, indeed, they may never all be answered until you have been travelling some time, but the Hu meetinsg are a good start. Hopefully you'll find a network of people who are only to willing to help and share.

See you there.

Regards,

Shane

Australian Motorcyclist magazine on Scootergal

Hi everyone,

If you want to read about an adventure, check out pages 94 to 97 of this month's Australian Motorcyclist magazine. One of our Horizons Unlimited mob, Jacqui Kennedy, also known as Scootergal, has a great article on travelling around Australia on a postie bike ( Honda CT110 ). Great story on a modern day adventurer. Jacqui is already locked in as one of the presenters for Beaudesert this year and I know she will be brilliant.

Regards,

Shane

Pocket Adventures presentation

Just registered as a presenter to give a talk on "Pocket Adventures". Ideas for quick adventures you can have before the boss even knows you were gone. Hope that it goes well.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
