Adventure Travel Film Festival Australia - Bright Vic 24-26 Feb 2012

Some of the world’s finest and rarest travel movies are to feature at Australia’s first ever Adventure Travel Film Festival.
Tickets on sale now via the website

Hosted and curated by Brit adventurers, film-maker Austin Vince and travel author Lois Pryce, The Adventure Travel Film Festival has graced the UK and the USA but this is its first trip down under! The festival offers a weekend of inspirational talks, workshops and hanging out amongst the fabulous scenery of the Great Alpine Valleys, not to mention the celluloid backdrop of some of the greatest travel films ever made.

Adventurous gems gracing the screen this year include classics from the golden age of exploration such as First Overland – the 1955 Oxford & Cambridge Land Rover expedition from Britain to Singapore, hardcore watery exploits from Canada, Colin Angus with his thrilling Yenisey River (2007) - paddling the wilds of Mongolia and Siberia, and rare motorcycle movies including the 1970 counter-culture treat, Cycles South featuring what is surely cinema’s only stoned nude dirt-biking scene!

Of course, we have to include some homegrown talent too. We’re proud to present the awesome Four Strokes of Luck (2010) that follows the incredible adventures of two Ozzies tackling the Darien Gap on a boat powered by their own motorcycles! And one from the archives - Back of Beyond, a haunting 1950s documentary following an outback mailman along the remote Birdsville Track.

The festival features many other spectacular travel films from the last 70 years covering every continent and form of transport including bicycles, motorcycles, buses, 4x4s, canoes and even a spot of train-hopping! And to add to the vibe, there will be an open-air starlight screening each evening.

Weekend ($65) and day passes ($35) will be available in advance from October (tickets will also be available on the door - more expensive). Tickets include not just films but workshops on film-making and presentations from top notch adventurers e.g. Jon Muir (tbc), Tim Cope (tbc), Alby Mangels (tbc) and Sandy Mackinnon. There are local hotels, campsites and B&Bs aplenty with all budgets catered for.

The festival takes place from Friday 24th Feb-Sunday 26th Feb 2012 at the Alpine Visitor Information Centre and Bright Brewery right at the heart of Beautiful Bright (Vic).

This event is a must for any sane human, adventurer or not, who has ever dreamed of exploring our great wide world. Itchy feet guaranteed!

I see Alby Mangels is unavailable now and your looking for suggestions. How about Mal Leyland from the Leyland Brothers?

mcguyver 9 Jan 2012 06:55

Any updates on the schedule?

Flying in and will be taking in the world supers on the same weekend, so need to plan a bit.

zeroland 9 Jan 2012 19:50

Drive from Sydney?

Anyone interested in driving from Sydney for this event?

We could depart Thursday evening, drive through the night, attend the event and drive back on Sunday. Make it much easier on the wallet and the long driving.

Let me know!

Gussie Moto 10 Jan 2012 11:04

Hi All

The draft schedule is now out. It's packed. We've also more in the pipeline.

Adventure Travel Film Festival Australia | Facebook

For non Facebook users, I've tried to attach it to this post. The website will be updated in the next few days

I'm following up with Mel Leyland. Please spread the word. We're trying to make the first Aus festival the best yet. Did I mention Bright Brewery are co-hosting the event - no excuse not to keep hydrated.

I'm excited, see you all there. Any questions, feel free to call

Rupert

discoenduro 23 Feb 2012 10:12

I'm booked in & really looking forward to seeing Austin again. What's the beer like at this brewery? Thirsty weather forecast at a sweaty 34c. See y'all there in your shorts and singlets.
