XR650R pillion

Is it safe to give a small (light!) girlfriend a pillion on the XR650R or should carrying that sort of weight (45-50kg) be avoided at all costs?
Cheers, Ed :thumbup1:

to be honest with you if she is very light and you go for a short distance why not , I saw many guys I SE Asia carrying a lady friend on thier XR, it cannot be worst than having a 300 pounds rider on the bike, just don't start to think the bike was built for it, plenty of power but the subframe will let you down.

I think I've seen rear foot-rests for it in OZ, but get off road and leave her at home for later ;-)

The handbook suggests a maximum load of 100Kg for the 650R (which you think might preclude a significant number of American riders? ahem x)

I don't know how they rate this (if it's an 'official' safe working load than the actual capacity is typically twice that...) but as Hendikaf says, the seat subframe is the weak point - it's only held on by 3 M8 bolts, and is lightweight alloy...

I've carried myself (full of some huge dinners) and around 20Kg of luggage/topbox on mine on and off-road - although I tended to stand up on the really rough stuff...
