XR650L OE chain life

Can I expect to get 6000 hard kms out of an original XR650L chain with 1000kms already done?

I know a decent DID, etc will manage 6000 easy, but dont know about XRL OE

Hi Chris,
I got 12,000 miles on the stock chain before it snapped in the woods and left me stranded http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/frown.gif But none of that riding was in sandy conditions which I would imagine would greatly accelerate wear.

And I certainly could have done a better job keeping it lubed, since I was keeping it outside in Seattle in the damp air for its first two years of life.

Cheers,
Wright

IMHO, the standard chain is rubbish off road. Mine is nearly knackered from abuse in Iceland and a wee bit of trailriding in scotland. I think you/we need to get a good old DID X ring gold, as these run well when dry (as they will be) with minimal strech (and therefore minimal maintenance). Just think how daft we'd feel if the rice pudding project went snafu for the sake of a chain.
Nag nag nag....

Thanks Abe, I'll get those x-rings we were offered then.
