XL600R 1984 Up to it/mods?

New to this forum and to prepairing a bike for long distance travel. Need advice.
I purchased a 1984 XL600 which looks in good shape with 98000km! Rebore, new piston, valve seats, coil and stator and runs starts well.
Question is: Is it up to some serious miles?
What mods? ie. Tank, panniers etc. etc.
Has to be cheap!
Thanks in advance.

Hi.
You may be able to fit a tank from an XL600LMF(the Paris-Dakar model) as it has a 7.4 gallon tank, but you will need the tank mountings too as they're longer and in a different place to the normal XL.If you start off with a good motor, there's no reason why it won't take you round the world with no trouble with periodical oil changes.I've just got back from a quick trip in France for the week, and my LMF has averaged 72MPG for the whole trip, almost all of which was using N and D roads mind you(no motorways).

Just going for a short ride on my bike....
