Wrong folder, Africa Twin

Hey Guys,

What do you think a 2001 model Africa Twin would be worth? It has 25,000 km on the clock, looks a bit tatty (lived outside in the tropics) Need new tyres, Sprockets and chain, and rear wheel bearings and maybe a rear shock if it can't be rebuilt?

Any suggestions would be appreciated . Also what are they really like?

Cheers
Ivan

AT's rock!

Tough, reliable, great on and off road (in the right hands...not particularly mine!). Just run the chain really slack and keep an eye on the fuel pump. Apart from that they're pretty much bomb proof.

Don't know what it's worth though

ATs do rock.. i love em.. (I am biased though). If you want a lot of info go here

It being a bit tatty is a bit of a worry. The shock can be rebuilt but many
(me too) found it is cheaper (in the long run) to replace with WP or Ohlins. tyres, sprocketchain are no big deal but will add up to a couple of 100 bucks so negotiate it down a bit. If the bike has not been looked after check the front shaft as on AT these tend to get eaten by poorly adjusted chains and require a complete rebuild to replace. I would be extra careful that the frame is not rotten/rusted too bad.. also look at the spokes/wheels these tend to oxidize and need rebuilding as well if the bike is not well cared for...oh yeah the fuel pumps go at about 25k miles.. so replace that with a facet solid state pump..(80$) hmm cant think of anything else..

as for price.. i got

All and All my personal opinion is that there is no better bike. (and for Aus this is even more true). but you will have a harder time getting parts back in Aus, so keep that in mind too (you have to have it a year to bring back btw). They cruse easily at 120kph,take turns like the best sports bike, they are heavy off road.. but you quickly get used to it. you can get lots of toys for em, Easy(ish) to maintain, the seat is rubbish (get a after market one made up), depending on you body the screen maybe rubbish as well (but there is lots of options). All in all if you are still in Aus buy it and fix it up then join AUS adventure riders oz_adventure_riders : Oz Adventure Riders

and have some real fun
