Which tank for a XR 400
 

Hi
I want to make a trip through Australia and looking for a light and good bike, so far I stick with a XR 400. Now I also want to go the Outback and got some tracks that are without fuell for over 400 km. Is there a possibility to put a bigger one on it? Or how many k`s can I do with the original tank, packed and the driver. Got anyone some tips with sattle bags or better cases for the load?

Hi there,
You can get the Acerbis 5.2 gallon tank to work on that bike, I'm pretty sure. Look into that, and if that doesn't work out, contact the guys at African Queens, who make a big aluminum tank for the XR600 which also might work.

And...
if neither of those work, I would suggest fabricating a rack for the rear that you can strap jerricans to.
BE SURE to reinforce the subframe heavily, as the bike is not designed to carry a lot of weight and you'd almost be certain to break the subframe with a lot of weight on that sort of terrain.
