Silverwing 600 for RTW ?

I'd like to try Silverwing 600 to
cross Russia and Middle East. over 40,000Km.
I will try paved road as much as I can.
But..there will be dirt road anyway..

So I'm very worry about riding dirt road with this.
I mean good dirt road..
Do you think the bike can handle that?
(For example,air cleaner..low bottom...)

If you have Silverwing, any advice is welcomed.

Hello SeWhan, nice to see your post on the web. I'm glad to here you will be continuing your travells. I looked at the Honda websight and checked out the bike. My first impresion of the bike was, well, not my first choice as an overland bike. What did you learn from your last bike? And that was one of the most popular models used for overland adventure. Remember, even if you stay on the highways, a lot of them will be very bad highways and will put the durability of your bike to the test. Looking at the tires, i'm not sure what the availability will be for where your going, or for spare parts. Also, you have almost no clearence under the bike. I would be interested in how it handles the dirt, it's kind of heavy at 218kg. I've never heard of a paralell 600cc. twin from honda, is this a new engine? sorry for my scepticism, but you asked ;)
What happened to the 250cc honda xlr? I used one in Thailand almost 8 years ago, and last i heard it's still running! Keep it simple, man!
BTW...i'm currently in Medellin, Colombia. Might be moving here and starting a business. Check out my web-page and keep in touch my friend!

Can a thousand London bike messengers be wrong?

Bill Ryder 25 Apr 2007 04:25

There are silver wings and there are silver wings

Lots of history with the name silver wing. The new silver wing is a scooter with 12 inch wheels and a fuel injected twin cylinder engine capable of 100 mph. It is a automatic which may be what the new rider from Korea is looking for. Probably not available over there but the ruckus 250 by honda at least looks the part. So who is this new rider ready to cross russia and the middle east?

I think the bike we're talking about has a diferent motor. All the research i've done sugests the motor is a paralell, or in-line twin.

Remarkable story by a remarkable man!

Bill Ryder 25 Apr 2007 05:24

Moto ride and friend?

Perhaps I am mistaken but I thought moto ride said he was going to do this latest journey with another rider who didn't have much riding experience.

mollydog 25 Apr 2007 08:11

Whoops!
Perhaps the Honda is better?

Bill Ryder 25 Apr 2007 14:44

Silver wing riding position

Nope, same kicked out lean back on you tailbone position.

motoride 25 Apr 2007 16:38

I find the one who did it on Scooter..!!

¢ŠEˆêŽü^ÎàV•v•w—·s‹L^ƒ Vƒ‹ƒo[ƒEƒBƒ“ƒO^ƒ^ƒ“ƒfƒ€ƒc[ƒŠƒ“ƒO

Try this,the Japanese guy
From Alask to Ushuaia on Honda Silverwing Scooter..very recently..
He even had been in Deadhorse in Alaska..!!!
Hm..Looks OK too me..

Honda mechanic told me today that.
1.V velt can be broken if I ride off road too much or
when the engine is too hot from long ride at one shot.
2.Front suspension is very week.

What is the solution? Let me know please..^^
If it's too stupid idea.
I have to buy the Suzuki DR 650SE which is the only Enduro model
I can buy now in Korea.

I have to decide until next week..!!
Please,help..!!

Mr. Ron 25 Apr 2007 17:38

The DR650 is a proven bike many times over. Simple carburated aircooled engine, proven reliability, light weight, parts availability. This is an excellent bike! Look here:

http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=135295
Tons of info! For me the choice would be simple, go for the Suzuki!

mollydog 25 Apr 2007 17:53

Anyway

Where are you going first?

Lone Rider 25 Apr 2007 18:05

Tracking down tires for a SilverWing could be an interesting experience...

motoride 25 Apr 2007 19:13

Hm...I already know what you mean...but..

Yes,I know DR650SE is the answer.
If I go with this,I will have no problem.
Mechanic,parts,tire and everything..

But..I really like to try Silverwing scooter because
I can imagine what will happen if I ride this on Russia,Mogolia then Stans..
THe local people watch me,speak to me,photos..then invite me to their house.
It will be more great then normal 650 enduro.
So it worth every other problems I got. I think..
The japanes guy had already travel 1 year and 7 months,45,000km with this
from Alaska to Ushuaia.(Yes,95% good paved and 5% dirt road)
They are still travelling and you know what?
They had cross Uyuni desert with this..!!! Just amazing..!!
So I feel I can make it if I ride 80% paved and 20% dirt road.
But I don't have any mechanic info about Big scooter because
I ever never had ridden big scooter before..
When I tell this Honda mechanic today,he said "You Are Crazy..It Is Impossible!!! Your bike will be broken within 400Km..!!!"
I'd like to prove him,"Everything is Possible"

I tell you more funny story about our travel situation.
THe other guy who will travel with me..
He never had been riding motorcycle before, but
he already buy KTM 990 a month ago. Then he call me,
"Hey,I really love your travel story, Let's go to Russia with me..!!"
My first saying was following.
"Oh,my god..!! KTM990? Just sell it then buy enduro 650.
It's too big for you.."
BUt..
I strongly feel that he really want to go,and also
that was me..1 year and 7 months ago, before travel..
So I decide to help him and make his journey more special.

These days..he try to sell KTM 990 but it looks impossible to do it
because we have to ship the bike to Japan in 3 weeks.
We have to ride from June ..summer time in Russia

So,He decide to go with KTM 990.
and I'm thinking of going with Honda silverwing scooter..

Sounds very very funny isn't it?

But also,
I think that,if I really want to help him
I have to go with DR650SE because silverwing will make more troubles
for our travel. As you know,I alreay have someone with KTM990.

My brain is somewhere between
Reality and Fantasy..

Am I too Fantastic?

(Sorry for Broken English..^^)
