Old Large GS tank on an XR4??

Hi one and all,

This may be a stupid question but.......every day's a school day, as they say!

I was looking at some old (late 80's early 90's) Dakar photos and noticed that some of the DR350's were wearing what looked like the large Acerbis BM Boxer tanks (stick with me now!).

Having looked at the XR related tank threads it would seem that the biggest option was the Acerbis 21 ltr, or possibly one of the old 'Africa' tanks?

Has anyone tried fitting one of the large BM tanks on an XR4??

If not, has anyone ever blown (expanded) a plastic tank using hot water, Hedrics & Duck Macdonald did this on there Aussie Safari XR6's in the late 90's, to get them out to 26ltrs.

Any info would be gratefully appreciated.

many thanks

Patrizia Scheck did it

Back in the 90 she upgrade her DR 350 with an G/S 43 liters tank.
But Acerbis did for a few years a 40 L tank for all XR.
I have one of 40 installed on my bike since 94.
If you look up on E-bay they surface from time to time.
There was an 30L tank from acerbis called AFRIKA.It was an universal single cilinder(around 600 cc) tank. This could be your choice.
Good luck on your hunt.
KH
PS:look at my blog for some tank pictures.
