Oil change intervals

I have a new Honda Transalp with 3500km now, and have changed the oil at 1000km, following the dealer´s instructions.

Was planning on changing in the factory intervals, every 4000 miles or 6000kms, using Castrol semi synthetic 10w-40 oil. Keeping in mind I don´t usually go past 120 on the motorway at constant speed nor I spend a lot of time in heavy traffic, will I gain anything by changing the oil every 3000km instead of Honda´s recomended 6000km?
(lets hope it´s not too big a can of worms I just cracked open)

"Was planning on changing in the factory intervals, every 4000 miles or 6000kms"

Interestingly, recomended oilchange interval for the Africa Twin and I think the TA 600 is 12000km. Why has Honda shortened this interval?

But I think oil change intervals are diffrent from persons to person and wary with use. shorter interval with mostly short trips and longer with longer tripps.

Petey Boy, Tis I Yen,

I've been changing mine every 5,000 miles, Honda recommend 8,000 miles. I find the engine feels rougher and uses oil by 5k so I change it for a quieter journey. I use Castrol GPS which is a semi synthetic.

Honda must have altered their oil change intervals if your book says 4,000 miles.

see ya back on Dualsport

Change oil as per handbook unless you're constantly doing short journeys as this is not so good for the oil.

I always fit a new oil filter every time as well.
