NX650 Snorkel removal - good idea?

I've read many times that if you remove the airbox snorkel on the XR650L (and rejet) it makes a useful bit of difference to the power.
Seeing as the Nx650 has pretty much the same engine i was thinking about doing the same.

Has anyone done this before. My bike carries a 148 main jet (standard for a uk dommie), but i'm worried it might take 'years' to get the jetting spot on. Considering you have to take half the bike apart to get the carb out - does anyone have any ideas!! Is the main jet the only thing to get replaced or should different needled be aquired. Like i said before, its a common talking point for the xr650l but i've never heard of anyone doing it on the dommie.

Thanks - Rob.

Baja designs (as well as DynoJet) in the states sells jetting kits - the one they sold me was spot-on. I'm not sure it's exactly the same carb as the XR650L, but if you can verify that, there's lots of info on jetting - sign up for the XRLUG user group on yahoo, which is for owners of XR650Ls:

Well i can verify that the carbs are slightly different. However i have heard of people using the XR kit from baja to sort out carburation on the dommie. (Basically to stop it from cutting out at the trafficlights, as most of them do)

I never heard of anyone pulling the snorkel out though, and if you did i assume you would need bigger jets. Would the baja kit allow you to jump up and down like this?

Hmm - Sounds like it might be more trouble than its worth, but i'll check out the xr group anyway.

cheers -rob
