NX650 Dominator Oil - which??

I've heard that certain types of oil might not be right for the honda dominator. Can anyone point me in the direction of the official oil recommendations from honda?

One story was that fully synthetic oil may be too good for it and potentially shorten the life of the clutch:confused1:

Cheers,
Oly

Short reply - try a Honda website or the oil manufacturers information

Hi,
It is an issue for various bikes, not just Hondas. Synthetic oils in general and car engine oils may not suit the clutch because of the additives that will help the oil immersed clutch of a bike to slip.

So, basically, stick to oils that are recommended for bikes, if you don't want to think about it too much, or do some research about the oil compositions, additives and whatever - there are other threads in here about this topic if you seach about a little.

Cheers,

In 20,000 African miles I used whatever oil was available (not synthetic) including diesel in my Dommie and it was fine. Just check it very frequently and change it often. And don't put the oil filter in the wrong way round when you get back home like I did.

My XN650 owner's manual (printed 1994, 2000 bike) only tells you the viscosity to use, not the type. 15w40 should cover the UK conditions o.k.
I agree with Walkabout's post above, and try to use bike specific oil if you can, I use mineral oil or semi-synthetic.
(semi-sympathetic as my old mom calls it).

Cheers Fellas, I used to use semi synthetic for my TDM850 and ZZR600, but what's the concensus with the NX650, mineral or semi-sythetic? And at what interval?

Cheers,
Oly.

That's what I did - filter change every 4000.
A lot depends where you're going on it. I never saw bike-specific oil in Africa so any old mineral oil had to do, although before I left I was using motorcycle oil.
Great bike... *starts dreaming of getting another one*
