Honda XR 125 at high altitude

Hi,

we are going to take a couple of Honda XR 125 from the UK to Siberia next Spring / summer. We will go across the Pamir highway. We will get fairly high (close to 5000m maybe).

Anyone knows if in those bikes (I think it's the same engine than the CG) we need to adjust the carburator, replace jets etc... or they will go up and up slowly but surely?

Any feedback from fellow CG125 or XR 125 travellers most welcome here!

Thanks!

Hello ,

i have had that bike, and ridden it up to 4500mtr, i just changed the
airfilter with an open one.And it went verry slow but steady all the way up.
I never touched the jets or carburatur.

Saludos !!!

Thanks Anaconda! Good to know! One less thing to worry about then :)

I headed that way on one this year, it got no further than Azerbaijan but I put that down to the previous owner rather than any inherent problem with the bike.

One problem I found was getting tyres, smaller width 17 and 19 inch were a bit of a problem although I got some in Turkey, apart from that it is an excellent little bike for the job and I have since bought another.

If you were wondering what luggage to take I found airhead GS pannier frames were easily modified to fit and look the part.

Hi Mark, thanks.
Yes I think I saw one of your posts on your problems during your trip.

We will leave with new tyres. MT60 should go a long way on those small bikes. And we need to get the bikes carefully checked as we bought them one bay!
Regarding luggage I have the Andyz panniers and my husband will get also some soft panniers. We want to travel very light.

Cheers,
