found a twin in usa!

hey humans! well imagine my surprise as i walked past the local starbuck$ and saw a @Twin parked there! seems the guy has just moved to dullass texas from sanfran. i got all excited as we talked. (i fell in love with twins after meeting cuan in kathmandu on his) checked the cycletrader online and astonishinly found a 93 rd04 for sale in arizona. after the terrorist dust settled we flew out and bought it and rode it back. so now my dillema is which bike to ride on my SA trip next year- my 99 klr or my twin? its gas tank is a paltry 17 liters and it only gets about 250k/ tank or 36mpg us! (loaded down and 2 up) is this standard? which bigger tank shoule i put on it? touratech or queen? what other mods would ya'll suggest? i'm gonna paint it a cuystom color this winter- are replacement stickers available? any other twin heads here in usa wanta talk? tom

Tom,

Touratech dont make tanks for the RD04, only the RD07 so Africa Queens is probably your only option. However the tank is actually 24 liters. The orange fuel light comes on with 8 liters left and the red light with 4 liters left. Early AT's are heavy on gas and your consumption sounds about right.

Hai,

Great! Maybe now there will be some more discusion about the AT. I love that bike to. Got an RD07A from '96.
At the moment I am preparing it for a RTW. Lots of work and also a few dispointments (parts don't fit or don't meet up to my standards) So it would be great to exchange info on that kind of stuff.

Congratulations Tom! We have talked before. I just returned from a 3,000 mi trip in 7 days to Az, and NM. I also just found out that I have an Austrian spec 50hp bike. I just removed the intake restrictions and will order cams soon. I recently replaced the chain and sprockets with 530-16-42 and I am pleased to have the strong chain. Let's meet soon and swap stories and ride too!

In search of 60hp,
