Engaging neutral when shifting from 1st to 2nd

Can anyone offer me some advice please? When I am shifting/changing firmly from 1st to 2nd gear, I am frequently engaging the neutral position.
With time it is becoming more and more frequent and is extremely annoying especially when one needs to pull away quickly.
My Africa Twin is the rd07 and done 35 000km.

Does the problem lie with the selector arm and stopper arm assembly which both locate on cam plate. The cam plate is bolted to the selector drum, these being accessed on the left hand bottom side of the motor and can be changed with the motor in the frame ? Or is it the problem with worn selector folks (3 of) and gears, which can only be worked on with the motor removed and the crankcase opened ??
When changing from 1st to 2nd gear the box is clunky and rather stiff when cold.

Any advice to point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Damian
