Dommie neutral light
 

Hi Guys,
For some reason my neutral light does not go out when i engage a gear, i've tried disconnecting the wire from the neutral switch but it stays on, any ideas?

Is it not set up to turn the light off when the circuit is made and when broken the light comes on?
pulling the wires will still have a broken circuit you need to check by joining the wire ends to see if it goes out.
The switch is activated by a little stud on the end of the shift drum, that pushes the switch in.

Neutral light woes
 

Normally neutral light switches are a very simple circuit wired so that power goesinto the bulb all the time and it is activated by making a circuit to earth via the neutral switch (ie the switch closes when in neutral and opens at all other times).

Assuming Dommie's follow that normal arrangement if your light stays on all the time (even after you have disconnected the wire from the switch) it means there is either (a) an electrical short to earth in the wiring run between the light and the switch or (b) if the wiring between the bulb and switch splits off to another component (such as a starter lockout relay) there is possibly a fault in that component providing an alternative path to earth.

If its (a) you will find it by signs of frayed insulation etc. Common place is around the head stock where turning of the steering causes the wiring loom to rub and abrade. If you don't find this then its time to look at cause (b) and then a wiring diagram will help a lot.

Thanks for the replys, i've found the problem, the wire was rubbing on a casing and shorting out, keeping the circuit live, Thanks for your help:clap:
