Dominator norma sound ??

hi to everyone..
i´m from portugal and as such i apoligyse for my weird english.
i've bought a '89 domie but i think that the sound of working motor it's not ok. when she is at a regular rotation (4 or 5 rpm) i listen to a sound similar to metal hiting and if i left her working in neutral she starts to lose rotation until she stops working. also when i reduce a shift she do something like this pof.pof pa, pof. . in the winter it's very, but very difuclt to make her start. can any kind soul give me an advice ??

i hope to be worth of your help.

when you hear a metal rattle coming out of the cilinderhead, you first adjust the valves, then you need to find the source of the rattle. it could be a lose valve-seat or a worne out auto-decompresion-cam or a worne out central came-shaft bearing.
ofcourse it could olso be the cam-shaft-chain or cam-shaft-chain-tensioner.
these things are the things i know may give a metal
sound out of the nx650 engine

the pof sound coming out of the exhaust means the fuel mixture is lean (litle fuel compared to air) you could adjust it by richening (more fuel compared to air) the mixture, there is a screw at the front of the carburetor (bottom) witch you could twist counter clockwise.
:smartass:
i hope this will help you, i drive a '88 domie

Beat is right on his advise but there may be other, simpler things to look for first. The carburetor to cylinderhead rubber mounting may be split(usually underneath where you can't see it) and is a quite common problem for the Dommie. Also the camchain and tensioner(as Beat said)will probably be a little worn at around 60,000km and if you are going to change one, best to change all as it's not a simple job. You'll need the special tool to re-fit the camchain tensioner(maybe borrow from a Honda mechanic???).I tried without before and it's practically impossible! But this will not cause it to be hard to start when cold....that DOES sound like the carb-cylinder head mounting.

Domie with a problem

I second the motion on seeing if the cam chain is worn. When I repair one in the shop I work at I always replace the chain, followers and tensioner. I also use a spoke to wind up the tensioner when putting the pieces back together. As far as the noise on decel and the lack of idle. Try turning the idle mixture screw all the way in lightly till it stops. If the idleing doesn't change any from having it screwed out about 2-4 turns then it is time to look at the carb boot or plugged up jets or air passages in the carb.
