Dominator with 45,000 miles - What to look out for ??

Hey guys

Theres a 1997 Dominator for sale near me with 45,000 miles on the clock..

"looks ok" from pictures and iv seen a vid of it running.

YouTube - Dom started

Im a trained moto mechanic so I know what to look for but i wouldnt mind some specialised info on the dominators from any die hard fans out there... What are the real weak spots at this mileage (which is pretty high for a single)...

Transmissions can be thrashed and im expecting to at least fix a few leaky valves... Anything else to look out for ?

Its currently up for £650.

Dominator weak spots can include the following;
If the original exhaust is still fitted,check for rot from about midway along,backwards especially where the pipes sit under the rear mudguard and the silencers.
If the running is a bit lumpy or does'nt pick up smoothly when revved,suspect the carb diaphram is shot...and the later ones you're looking at had one-piece diaphram/slides which are a bit pricey.
Camshaft wear (case-hardening pitting specifically) can rear it's ugly head but really depends on frequency of oil changes.
If you get a bit of clutch slip,try changing the oil for proper motorcycle oil first before renewing the clutch springs.Car oil has additives that don't help big single clutches.Age-softened springs are usually the cause of slip on the big RFVC motors(i've yet to find plates worn...).
Gearbox is normally bullet-proof on the RFVC,except if the final drive chain has come off and bent the gearchange shaft.NOTE;there are 3 different types of spline drive on the final drive sprocket shaft.Be sure to get the correct one(2 are very,very similar with barely 0.5mm difference in shaft size).
Standard seat is the most horribly uncomfortable contraption Honda have ever thought of!!
Other than that,they're cheap and a good one will do the trick.

Well it was your bike that made me think.. Since looking at in Hostel Argentina (which is closed now sadly)

It had a smoother and quicker cruising speed than my XT and just as reliable. Not many nice ones about anymore though. They all seem to be used as winter hacks.. All high milers with no service history..

Either that or plump for ANOTHER Africa Twin.. it would be my 3rd !!
