clicking / clacking noise
We are in Laos at the moment and have rented a Baja to do some touring. We are riding 2 up. After about a day, a progressively louder clacking noise has been coming from down below, specifically when accelerating in low gears. Sounds like it could be chain-related. Lubricating the chain seems to make it a bit better, but the noise is still there. Is this a drive train problem, or any other ideas?
We're getting further away from civilization soon, so any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!

Bradd have you check the chain guide?if any may be not propper adjust or missing?

Thanks for the advice. Will check it out. I've never had problems with a chain guide before, so not exactly how big of a gap there should be but there seems to be a fairly wide gap at the momet.

Brad,
you gotta put your ears on here mate. Is the noise there when you are stopped? Rev the engine.....do you hear it....at all? OK, next. Prop the bike up on some kind of stand so you can run the rear wheel and have a close look while its spinning round. Is there anything in around the countershaft sprocket rubbing? Any debris? Wood? Is the chain touching the metal guard? Now check the chain guide mentioned above. Is the chain too loose? Get both of you one the bike with all your crap and THEN check chain slack. Check rear wheel alignment. If you've had a puncture mayb you've got the rear wheel cocked a bit sideways. This will make the chain rub. A loose chain will make a Hell of a racket under way. It will SLAP up and down on the swingarm rubber bumper. Tighten it up but not too far. Check again fully loaded. Its could be worn out. Buy a new one. New Sprockets too mate. You'll thank me. Patrick

Probably worn or v slack chain, perhaps wheel bearings???
