Centre stand..

Just bought a 1992 Dominator for a RTW trip but it only has a side stand.. possible to fit a centre stand to this? If so... any ideas who I can get one from?
Cheers..

Hai,

Probable Honda has a centre-stand for it. If not try Givi. They make centre-stands for a lot of bike's.
It's a good idea to check out how it's connected. I have a AT and the Honda centre-stand take's about 2 hours of work, the Givi centre-stand was put on in half an hour.
On the other hand, the Honda looks a bit more rigit. (I did choose the Givi)

Anyway, the Honda dealer should be able to provide you with the posibilities.

Spud,

I have a Honda Transalp with no centerstand. I am considering to make a centerstand with the help of some friend who are 'handy ironmen'. Basic idea is to copy one and try to make it better. Also is probably cheaper. (Honda centerstand is about 223 EURO, or 9000BEF)
They (the handy ironmen) say it ain't that hard.
We are still in the 'plan'-stage, but if you want I can keep you posted.

Yes please! I am going to the bike show in NEC UK) to see if they have any good deals but I am quite a fan of creating these things yourself..

Bit of a weird idea for you, but if the centre stand is only for changing tyres etc. I currently have 2 side stands fitted to my bike, left and right. Ground clearence isnt compromised and with a stone under each it acts as a centre stand. Amazingly handy is being able to use left or right stand on uneven surfaces.

Yeeho! Great idea placing two side stands! Cheaper, lighter, multifunctional, ground clearance...

Do you think this is possible on virtually every bike? And is it stable enough to work safely on your bike? I wouldn't like getting my hand stuck under a 200 kilo bike in the middle of nowhere.

I have just been told by my local Honda dealer that they do not make a centre stand for the Dominator. I am going to check out Givi if not it's the good idea of two side stands or make one myself.

When I had a transalp I used my abus u lock wedge under the right foot peg to repair punctures so anything is an improvement. The 2 side stands are more stable than a centre stand as there footing is far wider. However the balence point front and rear isnt as good so to remove the front wheel somebody has to push down on the rear of the bike or wedgeing a stick, rocks or luggage under the engine case worked as well.
I think the most important thing is to get a very good welder to do the welding as once you get used to it the 2nd stand gets used as much as the first.

Hein Gericke Sell/list a centrestand for the NX650 I am sure it is about £100.
