Carry weight for my 2004 Honda Shadow

I need to know how much extra that I will be able to carry on my 2004 Honda Shadow VT600CD VLX Deluxe.

I want to travel and camp, but I am not sure how much weight I can carry on the bike other than me.

I have 2 small leather packs on each side and I've added a luggage rack to the back behind the sissy bar for more carry room. It would only be me and my gear on the bike, solo rider.

That's a very small pic of my bike on a trailer, before I put the cargo rack on it.

Thanks! tlneale

I'm surprised that nobody got back to you, but I'll have a go. Your bike should have a GVW plate on the bike that includes not only the weight of the motorcycle but also its total weight which includes the motorcycle, passenger and any load.

Seeing as the bike is designed for taking a passenger you can use that as a guide. So you would subtract the bikes weight, your weight from the maximum GVW ( Gross Vehicle Weight ) and what's left is how much you can carry. A good place to carry your gear ( seeing as you are riding solo ) in on the passenger seat. This keeps the majority of the weight ahead or on the rear axle.

If you can't find the GVW plate do some google searches of your bikes model and you should be able to get that in the specs you find online. I've also PM this to you in the event you aren't on this site anymore.

My mate got quite a bit on his Shadow with no issues. And he is on the chubby side to :oops2:

I've found with cruisers, the back will bottom a bit if you've got too much weight on the back, but despite this, the handling stays pretty good without the wallowing effect through corners (IMO) :rolleyes2:
